Solviera Ceramic Vase

The Solviera Ceramic Vase comes from the way oil paint behaves when it is dragged with a palette knife instead of brushed: two colors meet while both are still wet, each holds its own edge, and neither blends into the other. Poured glaze does the same thing on a curved surface — it runs vertically, stops where it stops, and leaves a hard boundary between one field of color and the next. Gold goes on last, in small torn shapes that sit where the fields meet, the way a highlight is added at the end of a painting.

Mouth size decides how each one gets used. The ewers and the large amphora open at 2.5–3.5 cm, which holds a single stem or a tight bud — a hand-painted ceramic bud vase for a bedroom dresser or a bathroom vanity, where it works as an object first and a container second. The small amphora at 5.5 cm and the low gourd at 8 cm take a short bunch. The tall and extra-tall gourds open at 12.7 cm and 15 cm, wide enough for a full arrangement or a spray of dried pampas; at 52.5 cm and 4.4 kg the largest sits on the floor beside a sofa or at the base of a console rather than on a tabletop. The lidded temple jars read as standalone objects with the lid on — one at each end of a fireplace mantel, or a pair on a dining room sideboard. Across an eclectic living room, a Hollywood Regency entryway or a maximalist bookshelf, the gold picks up warm lamplight in the evening and the hard-edged color blocks hold their own against patterned wallpaper.
