Rosaline Wall Sconce

Inspiration

The Rosaline Wall Sconce started from a single rose tied to a garden stake with ribbon. The stem had been trained up the stake rather than left to lean, so the leaves and the wrapped ribbon ran together down its length and the bow sat at the top where the knot was finished. One bloom had grown past the tie and leaned away from the wall on its own arm, nodding forward the way a cut rose does once it opens fully. A second, smaller bud stayed back against the stake, still tight. Keeping that difference — one flower out and open, one held close and closed — is what the piece was drawn around.

FAQ

How high should it be mounted?
Beside a bed, set the center of the backplate about 150–160cm/59–63″ from the floor so the shade sits above shoulder height when you are sitting up. Flanking a bathroom mirror, mount at about 165cm/65″ and space the pair 90–100cm/36–40″ apart. In a hallway, 165–175cm/65–69″ keeps the bulb out of the sightline.
How far does it stick out from the wall?
It projects 32cm/12.6″, which is deep for a sconce because the shade sits out on a curved arm. In a hallway narrower than about 105cm/42″, or anywhere people pass close to the wall, mount it above head height or choose a wall that is out of the walking line.
What bulb does it take?
One E12 or E14 bulb at 9W, included. It offers three selectable color temperatures — the setting changes by flicking the wall switch off and back on, so it needs no dimmer or remote.
Do the shade and ceramic roses look identical on every piece?
Not exactly. The shade is cast glass and the roses are applied and glazed by hand, so petal edges, frosting density and color depth shift slightly from unit to unit. Ordering a pair for a mirror, expect them to read as a matched pair rather than identical copies.
