Overview

This seashell wall sconce takes the fluted curves and radiating lines of a natural shell, cast in white plaster as a sculptural, coastal form. The ridged shell shape brings a note of the ocean to a wall, and an integrated warm-white LED (3000K) washes the surface with a soft glow along the flutes. At W 14.5″ × H 8.2″ and damp-rated, it works in a bathroom, hallway, or bedroom, or under a covered porch.

Important — Mounting Compatibility
!
May not fit a standard U.S. junction box. The backplate or mounting holes may not align with a standard U.S. electrical junction box. We recommend installing on a solid wall or with a non-standard junction box. If installation on a standard box is required, please hire a licensed electrician to use a custom mounting plate or make the necessary adjustments for a safe, code-compliant installation.
Why It Works
🐚 Sculptural Shell Form The fluted curves and radiating lines directly mimic a natural seashell — a sculptural, coastal shape that brings the seaside indoors. It reads as a decorative object on the wall, lit or unlit.
💡 Integrated Warm-White LED A built-in LED at 3000K warm white washes the wall with a soft glow that follows the shell's ridges, with an average 50,000-hour lifespan. Dimmer compatible (switch sold separately). The LED is integrated and not replaceable.
💧 Damp-Rated Plaster Cast in white plaster and damp-rated, so it can go in a bathroom or under a covered porch as well as dry indoor rooms — a matte, natural finish that suits a coastal or organic-modern interior.
Where It Works Best
🛁 Bathroom & Hallway

Being damp-rated, it works beside a bathroom mirror or along a hallway — the shell form and soft wall-wash glow turn a plain wall into a coastal accent in a spot that usually gets a basic fixture.

Damp-rated
🛏 Bedroom

Mounted beside the bed or as a wall accent, the warm 3000K wall-wash is soft and restful. On a dimmer it drops to a low, calming glow for the evening.

Dimmer — sold separately
🌊 Coastal & Covered Outdoor

In a coastal or organic-modern living space, or under a covered porch, the white plaster shell adds a natural, seaside detail — a sculptural sconce that suits relaxed, nature-led interiors.

Plaster Lighting Collection

Sculpted from Plaster

Hand-finished fixtures cast in plaster, where every curve, groove, and matte surface is shaped to hold light rather than reflect it.

The Material

Why plaster

Plaster is a sculptor's material first, a lighting material second. It takes a mold with the softness of clay and holds the finished shape with the permanence of stone — which is why it's the material of choice when a fixture needs to read as a form, not just a fitting.

Matte Texture

A soft, non-reflective surface that absorbs light instead of bouncing it back — a quieter alternative to polished metal finishes.

Sculptural Form

Cast, not stamped — able to hold arcs, reliefs, and organic silhouettes like shells and florals with a dimensional depth other materials can't.

Light and Shadow

Grooves, pleats, and curved surfaces catch light unevenly, casting soft shifting shadows across the wall as the light in the room changes.

In the Room

How plaster shapes the light

Light doesn't just pass through a plaster fixture — it travels across it. As the sun moves through the day, or as a bulb warms behind a curved shade, every carved groove and raised edge throws a slightly different shadow.

That's the effect that makes plaster fixtures feel alive on a wall in a way flat, glossy surfaces don't: the light is always slightly different, and the shadow is always part of the design.

Move your cursor across the panel to see how a single relief surface shifts under changing light — the same effect at work across every piece in this collection.

Material Guide

Is plaster right for your space?

Plaster is one of several materials in our collections built around form and texture. Here's how it compares, so you can choose the right one for the room.

Material Surface Best for Care level
Plaster Matte, soft-touch Sculptural, statement pieces Gentle dusting, dry rooms
Brass / Metal Polished or brushed Warm ambient reflection Occasional polish
Ceramic Glazed or matte Color, glossy accents Wipe clean
Resin / Composite Smooth, lightweight Budget-friendly, humid rooms Wipe clean, low-maintenance

Good fit for: dining rooms, entryways, and living spaces with stable humidity, where a fixture is meant to be looked at as much as it lights the room. Less ideal for: bathrooms, kitchens near steam, or outdoor and covered-porch installs — choose a resin or metal fixture from our other collections for those spaces instead.

Living With Plaster

Care & handling

01

Dust, don't wipe

Use a soft, dry brush or microfiber cloth. Avoid water or cleaning sprays, which can soften or mark the matte surface.

02

Keep it dry

Plaster is best suited to living rooms, bedrooms, and entryways — not bathrooms, kitchens, or spaces with regular steam.

03

Handle with care during install

Plaster is more delicate than metal or ceramic. Support the fixture fully during mounting and avoid gripping decorative edges.

04

Minor marks are normal

Small surface variations are part of the handmade casting process, not a defect — each piece is unique.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is plaster lighting fragile?

Plaster is more delicate than metal or resin, but it's durable enough for everyday indoor use once installed. Careful handling matters most during unboxing and mounting.

Can plaster fixtures be painted?

Most arrive in a natural matte white or ivory finish. Because plaster takes paint well, some customers do have pieces custom-tinted to match trim or wall color — check the individual product page for finish notes.

Will plaster yellow or crack over time?

In stable, dry indoor conditions, plaster holds its finish well for years. Excess humidity or direct sun exposure is the main cause of surface changes over time.

Are plaster fixtures heavier than other materials?

Yes, generally. Confirm your ceiling or wall mount is rated for the fixture weight listed on the product page before installation.
