Inspiration

The Cantilever Alabaster Wall Sconce comes from a marble set down on the edge of a shelf and left there, half on and half off. The backplate is a small brass capsule, domed like a river-smoothed pebble, and a single Spanish alabaster sphere rests on its top rim so that most of the ball hangs out past the metal, held by nothing you can see. There is no arm and no visible screw; the two shapes simply touch. Lit from inside, the stone turns cloud-white with a few amber veins and casts a warm glow down over the brushed brass beneath it.

How is the orb held if there is no arm?

The G9 socket and its fitting sit inside the sphere and bolt through the top of the brass capsule, so the connection is hidden inside the stone. The overhang is carried by that fitting, not by the shell.

How much light does a single G9 give?

Enough for ambient light: the alabaster glows in every direction and washes the brass below it. It is not a task or reading light, so use it in pairs or in a run.

Where should it go beside a mirror or in a hallway?

Mount the center of the orb at about 160–170cm/63–67″. The 8cm/3.1″ projection keeps it clear of door swings and works on either side of a powder-room mirror.

Why does my orb look different from the photo?

Spanish alabaster is natural stone; the amber veins and cloudy patches change from block to block, so no two spheres are identical.

The Craft

From a block of stone
to light in your room.

Alabaster can't be moulded or mass-pressed — it is cut. Every shade starts as solid stone and is worked by hand until it's thin enough to glow evenly. That's why no two are the same.

Quarried

Blocks of natural alabaster are extracted and graded for translucency and the quality of their veining before any cutting begins.

Cut & shaped

Each block is sliced and turned or carved to form, then hollowed so a bulb can sit behind the stone wall.

Hand-finished

The walls are sanded to an even thickness so light passes through without dark patches, then polished by hand.

Wired & assembled

Fitted with brass hardware and wired to a 120V, safety-certified build, then inspected before it ships.

Is alabaster lighting durable, or does the stone chip easily?

Alabaster is a solid, fine-grained stone with real weight — not fragile in normal use. It is softer than marble, so avoid knocks and harsh chemical cleaners. A soft, dry cloth keeps it looking right for years.

Will my alabaster fixture look exactly like the photo?

No — and that's by design. Each shade is cut from natural stone, so the veining and tone are unique to your piece. The product photo shows a representative example; yours will have its own distinct veining.

What bulb and colour temperature work best with alabaster?

Use a 2700K warm-white LED to bring out the honeyed, candle-like tone in the stone. Cooler bulbs make alabaster look gray. Most fixtures take an E26 or G9 base — check the product page — and dim with a compatible LED dimmer.

Which alabaster fixture should I choose for my room size?
