Inspiration

The Petavin came from a question about pairing rather than shape: what happens when the same curve is cut twice, once in bent wood and once in stretched linen, and the two are crossed at right angles. Wood holds the line and catches the grain; linen goes soft and takes the glow. Set in an X around an open center, the four petals never resolve into one reading — a flower from below, two crossing waves from the side, and something different again as you walk past.

Key Features

Four-Petal Crossing Silhouette
Four curved petals set in a crossing X around an open center, so the fixture reads differently from below, from the side, and in passing.
Walnut and Linen Paired
Two petals in bent walnut veneer with visible grain, two in cream linen stretched over matching frames — hard and soft in the same silhouette.
Wood-Bead Finial, Exposed Globe
A dark walnut bead and brass-tone finial top a twisted-cloth cord, with the opal globe bulb hanging clear of the petals for a soft direct glow.

Use Case

The Petavin is sculpture first, light source second — the petal cross anchors the room whether the bulb is on or off. With the globe hanging clear of the petals, light falls straight down while the linen catches a soft side-glow. Treat it as ambient or accent light and add recessed cans wherever food prep actually happens.

Walnut, cream linen, and brass sit well with white oak floors, raw linen and bouclé upholstery, plaster walls, warm-neutral paint, and rattan accents — Japandi dining rooms, organic modern living rooms, wabi-sabi bedrooms, Scandinavian kitchens. FAQ

Is the wood solid walnut or veneer?
Bent walnut veneer — thin layers of real walnut laminated and shaped over a curved form. Solid walnut can't bend to this profile without cracking, so the veneer is what makes the curve possible, and the grain you see is real wood. Grain pattern varies between pieces, and between the two petals on the same fixture.
What bulb keeps the look in the photos?
Because the bulb hangs exposed, the bulb choice is part of the design. The included one is an opal-glass globe in warm white. For replacements, stay with a frosted or opal globe-shape LED — G25 or G80 — at 3000K. A clear filament bulb changes the fixture substantially: the exposed element draws the eye away from the petals and casts hard shadows through them.
How wide should the pendant be for my table?
Roughly half to two-thirds the width of the table. On a standard 36–40″ wide dining table, the medium is usually right; the small suits narrow tables and round four-tops, and the large needs a 44″+ table or a wide island to avoid looking top-heavy. Because the petals spread wider than a drum shade of the same rating, leave a little more clearance at the ends than you would for a conventional pendant.
