Vines Plug In Pendant Light

The Vines Plug-In Pendant Light borrows from the Victorian habit of training ironwork to look like something growing. Gold-finish vines are bent over the glass rather than cast into it, so the metal reads as a plant that found the shade and wrapped around it. Lit, the curves throw leaf shadows onto the wall and ceiling — the frame ends up doing as much as the glass, which is why the shade is kept plain and rounded underneath it.

The Vines works best as a plug-in glass pendant for a kitchen island end or a vintage glass pendant for a bedroom — hung 30–36″ above a counter, or 24–30″ above a nightstand. At 8.7″ the shade suits a breakfast nook, reading corner or single island end rather than a wide dining table, and since nothing is hardwired it also fits renters and rooms without ceiling wiring. Green gives a warmer tinted glow; clear stays brightest and shows the bulb.
