Inspiration

Madera answers an old problem: the light you want is overhead, and the wiring is somewhere else. The arc solves it by reaching — a stem that leaves the floor on one side of the room and arrives above the sofa on the other, carrying its shade like a fishing rod carries a line. Three materials meet at three weights: metal thin enough to look drawn, rattan woven loose enough to glow, marble heavy enough to hold the whole cantilever down without a bracket.

Placement

Set on a hard floor — hardwood, tile, or a low-pile rug — since thick pile can let the base tilt toward the shade side. Leave room for the arc to carry the shade out over your seating.

Marble: a soft dry cloth, or barely damp with mild non-acidic soap — vinegar, citrus, and harsh cleaners etch marble. Rattan: a soft brush, or a vacuum on low suction with the brush attachment.

Where It Works

Set the base behind a sofa or beside a lounge chair and the arc drops the shade above the sitter, which makes Madera useful in rooms with no ceiling box at all — rentals, finished basements, additions. The rattan weave keeps the output soft, so it reads as ambient lounging light rather than task light, and the marble and warm metal give it enough presence to work as the one large object in a corner. FAQ

How do I plan for the arc reach?

The arc projects the shade horizontally from the base — far enough to clear a sofa back and sit above the seating area. When you pick a spot for the base, aim for the shade to land where you want the light to fall: above the middle of the sofa, or over a lounge chair.

Will it tip over?

Not on a hard floor, as designed — the solid marble base counterweights the arc. On thick pile carpet the base can sit unevenly, so hardwood, tile, or a low-pile rug gives the most stable footing.

What's the metal made of?

The structural stem is metal in a warm metallic finish with a soft golden tone that sits well next to the rattan and marble. It isn't solid brass, and we don't market it as such.

Can it replace a ceiling fixture?

Functionally, close — the arc puts the shade overhead the way a pendant would, so it delivers overhead-style ambient light with no wiring at all. It's still a plug-in floor lamp rather than a ceiling fixture.

How bright is it?

The rattan shade diffuses the light, so even a brighter bulb reads soft rather than sharp. The included bulb is sized for ambient light over a sofa or chair, not direct task light — for more output, fit a higher-lumen E26 or E27 LED.
