Inspiration

The Zorvella Floor Lamp started from a canvas garden parasol left tipped against a wall after lunch. Nobody had folded it, just leaned it, so the canopy hung at an angle instead of sitting level, and the afternoon sun came through the cloth and lit the whole cone from the inside. The tilt was the part worth keeping. So the stem was drawn as one continuous arc that leans out and turns the shade face-down at the end, and the shade stayed wide and shallow the way a parasol is. The turned foot below gives it the weight the wall had been providing.

How does the light come through the shade?

Two ways at once. The open bottom of the cone sends direct light straight down onto a book or side table, while the fabric diffuses the rest so the whole shade glows instead of showing the bulb. That makes it a reading lamp that still works as ambient light with nothing else on.

Where should it stand next to a chair?

Put the base beside or just behind the arm of the chair and turn the arc so the shade leans in over the seat. The base is Dia 28cm/11″ and the neck carries the shade forward, so leave the curve pointing toward the chair rather than out into open floor.

What bulb and switch does it use?

One E26 or E27 bulb, included, in warm light at 3000K. It runs from a standard outlet with an in-line foot switch on the cord, so it turns on without reaching up under the shade.

Is a 40cm shade large for a floor lamp?

It is wider than most, and that is the point. At Dia 40cm/15.7″ against a shade height of only 24cm/9.4″, the cone is shallow, so the pool of light below it is broad and soft-edged — enough to cover a book and the arm of the chair rather than a narrow spot.
