Washi paper is thin, strong, and slightly translucent — which is exactly what a good shade needs. Light passes through the fiber instead of bouncing off it, so the glow lands soft and even. Every shade is hand-shaped over a wire frame, which means no two are identical. The small variations on the surface aren't defects — they're the difference between a handmade lantern and a printed one.
Washi, traditional Japanese paper, is crafted from the inner barks of plants like kozo, mitsumata, and gampi. The process involves carefully stripping, boiling, and pounding the fibers into pulp, which is then spread onto bamboo mesh to form delicate sheets.
