Nubei Ceiling Light

Nubei takes its cue from wabi-sabi — the Japanese habit of finding beauty in the weathered and imperfect rather than the polished. The surface is worked into a close, irregular grain, the kind you find on a plank left out in the weather or a wall rubbed smooth by hands over years. Nothing about it announces itself: a low disc, a quiet texture, three earth tones. It's a fixture designed to be noticed second, after the room.

At 3.9″ deep the Nubei sits close to the ceiling, so it suits low ceilings, hallways, stairwells, and small bathrooms where a pendant would be in the way. Because it also mounts on a wall, a pair reads well flanking a mirror or running down a corridor at head height. The damp rating opens up the spots most flush mounts can't take — a bathroom ceiling, a covered porch, a sheltered entry.
