The Zorvella Table Lamp started from a length of printed cotton with a small repeating motif — the kind of yardage kept for a dress and never cut. Laid flat the print reads as even rows, but folded it breaks into narrow columns and the motif only resolves again once the folds open out under light. That was the reason to pleat the cloth rather than stretch it smooth. The shade was then drawn wide and shallow, so there is enough surface for the pattern to actually be seen from a chair beside it. The turned column underneath was left plain on purpose, so nothing competes with the cloth.
