Inspiration

The Vitrail started from a reading-room daydream: a leaded window at dusk, and a pile of books left open on the sill. So the shade was built as the books themselves — leaded panels in pink, amber, red, and green, cut and soldered into a stack with spines slightly out of line, the way real books settle. Warm light behind coloured glass does what it has always done in old libraries and chapels: it turns a small lamp into something worth looking at.

Before You Buy — Bulb Requirements

Halogen Bulb Only — LED Bulbs Will Not Work This lamp needs a 35W or 50W halogen bulb (GU10 base) to make enough heat to melt candle wax. An LED runs cool by design — it will light the lamp but melt nothing. The halogen bulb is sold separately; a starter candle is included.

How does a candle warmer lamp work?

Set a jar candle on the oak base under the shade and switch on. The bulb's heat melts the wax from the top, releasing the scent with no flame, smoke, or soot — and because the wick never burns, the candle lasts far longer.

What bulb does it need, and is it included?

A 35W or 50W GU10 halogen bulb, sold separately. Only halogen works — a standard LED runs cool and won't melt wax. The bulb is replaceable; see Bulb Requirements above for a purchase link.

What candles can I use, and is one included?

A starter candle is included. Use jar candles in glass, or wax melts and tarts in a glass dish, so the melted wax stays contained. It is not for pillar candles, tapers, or tealights.

Is it safe, and how do I clean it?

It is flame-free, which is safer than an open flame around children and pets — but the lamp and the wax still get warm, so use a heat-safe surface, keep it out of reach, and switch it off rather than leaving it unattended (there is no auto-off timer). Unplug and let it cool before wiping the glass and metal with a dry cloth; never immerse it.

Does a candle warmer lamp work with any jar candle?

Yes. It's made to melt standard large jar candles and 3-wicks up to about 4″ (10 cm) wide — including the ones you already own. There are no proprietary refills.

Is a candle warmer lamp really flameless and safe around kids and pets?

There's no wick and nothing burning — only a warm bulb above the wax — so it's far safer to leave on than an open flame. Place it on a stable surface and switch it off before bed if you prefer.

Will it melt the whole candle and stop tunneling?

Heat spreads across the top of the wax evenly, so the full pool melts instead of just the center. You get the fragrance from the entire candle rather than wasting the bottom inch.

How long until the wax melts and the fragrance releases?

Most candles begin to release scent within roughly 15–30 minutes as the top layer warms. Larger or deeper jars take a little longer to reach a full melt pool.

Is the candle warmer lamp bright enough to use as a light?

The colors look warm and cozy once the light is on. I’m very happy with it.
