The Zavero Pendant Lamp is the screw base of a light bulb blown up to the size of a hat. The shade is opal white glass shaped like an Edison cap: a ribbed, threaded neck at the top, then a flat wide disc where the glass envelope would begin, so the whole pendant reads as the part of a bulb you normally never look at. The cord is the other half of the joke, a coiled spring cable in blue, yellow or white, the kind that stretched between a wall phone and its handset in the 1980s. Pull the shade down and the coil stretches; let it up and it springs back. Lit, the milk glass glows evenly and the threads show as soft rings of shadow.
