Inspiration

The Capelle Floor Light is a tall floor lamp with a slim black bamboo-style stem rising from a round black wood base to a wide capiz-shell coolie shade — the pearly shell shade of the Capelle Flush Mount sized up, finished with a walnut wood disc and turned finial at the top. The shade is 19.7″ (50 cm) across and opens downward, and the lamp is 65″ (165 cm) tall, with a 59″ (150 cm) plug-in cord. It takes one E27 bulb (included). For a sofa-side corner, bedroom, or studio.

Key Features

Capiz-Shell Coolie Shade
The wide cone shade is real capiz shell pieced into pearly cream panels, opening downward so the light spreads out and down.
Black Bamboo-Style Stem
The stem is rubber wood in a matte black finish, turned with bamboo-look segment nodes along its length — a clean vertical with rhythmic detail.
Round Black Wood Base
A heavy round black wood base anchors the lamp under a 50 cm shade overhead, so it stands stable on a hard floor or rug.

Good To Know

!
Natural shell & finished wood — indoor dry use only The shade is pieced from natural capiz shell, so each panel's pattern, tone, and translucency vary slightly piece to piece — characteristic of the material, not defects. The stem and base are rubber wood in a matte black finish, with a small walnut wood disc and finial at the top of the shade. It ships with one E27 bulb included and runs on a plug-in cord. Set it on a flat floor indoors; not for bathrooms or outdoor areas.

Use Case

The Capelle's wide capiz-shell coolie shade opens downward, so the light pools down through the pearly shell — a soft, ambient glow rather than a sharp reading beam — good as a corner lamp beside a sofa or armchair, a bedside floor lamp, or background lighting in a living room or studio. At 65″ (165 cm) tall, it sits at standard floor-lamp height so the shade reaches above a seated head and lights the surrounding area without glare.

The black bamboo-style stem, dark walnut top, and pearly shells give it a transitional, coastal, vintage look — pairs well with rattan, woven, or wood furniture and warmer rooms. It runs on a 150 cm plug-in cord, so plan an outlet near the chosen spot. Set it on a flat floor indoors and keep it out of damp areas. For custom requests, email info@docos.us.

FAQ

How tall is the Capelle Floor Light?
It stands 65″ (165 cm) tall with a 19.7″ (50 cm) wide capiz-shell shade — standard floor-lamp height for a sofa, bed, or reading chair.
What bulb does it use, and is it included?
It uses one E27 (medium screw base) bulb, and the bulb is included.
What is the shade made of?
The shade is real capiz shell pieced into pearly cream panels, opening downward in a wide coolie cone — softly translucent so the bulb glows pearly through the shell.
What is the stem made of — real bamboo?
No — the stem is rubber wood in a matte black finish, turned with bamboo-look segment nodes. Real wood styled as bamboo, not actual bamboo.
How does the light feel — bright or soft?
Soft and ambient. The wide downward shell shade spreads the light below and to the sides, so it's a corner glow or background light, not a sharp task or reading beam.
Can I use it in a bathroom or outdoors?
No — shell and wood are for indoor, dry locations only. Keep it out of bathrooms and damp areas.

The capiz shell collection

Natural Shell, Sculpted by Light

Capiz is a paper-thin shell from the coastal waters of the Philippines. Cut, layered and assembled by hand, it turns an ordinary bulb into a soft, pearly glow that feels calm in any room.

The material

Beauty Written by Nature

Capiz comes from the windowpane oyster, a flat shellfish whose shell is so thin and clear that it was once used in place of glass in Philippine windows. That same quality is what makes it so good at holding light.

Translucent

Light passes through the shell rather than bouncing off it, so the whole surface glows.

Pearlescent

A quiet mother-of-pearl sheen shifts gently as you move around the room.

Featherlight

Even large shades stay light, so they hang and move easily without bulky hardware.

Organic

A natural material with real growth lines, never a printed or molded imitation.

The structure

Layered for Depth & Dimension

A capiz shade is built from many small pieces rather than one sheet. Where the shells overlap, the light softens; where they sit alone, it shines a little brighter. That play between layers gives the shade depth you can see from across the room.

  • Single layer

The brightest areas, showing the shell's natural grain most clearly.

  • Overlapping layers

Shells placed edge over edge create soft, scale-like tones across the surface.

  • Built-up form

Pieces are joined over a frame or strung into tiers to shape the final silhouette.

Lights off, lights on

Beautiful, Day or Night

Capiz is a decorative piece in its own right. It doesn't wait for the evening to look finished.

Daytime · light off

Soft texture by day

Switched off, the shells read as a calm, pearly white with natural ridges, like a sculpture catching window light.

Evening · light on

Warm glow by night

Switched on, each shell turns a warm honey tone and the overlaps come alive with gentle light and shadow.

The craft

Made by Hand, Piece by Piece

There is no machine that can lay a capiz shade. Every piece passes through skilled hands before it reaches yours.

  1. Clean and select

Shells are washed and sorted by tone and thickness so each light looks balanced.

  2. Soften and flatten

The shells are pressed flat, ready to be cut cleanly without cracking.

  3. Cut to shape

Each piece is cut by hand into discs, squares or petals depending on the design.

  4. Assemble

Pieces are joined, overlapped or strung one at a time around the frame.

  5. Inspect and finish

Every light is checked for spacing, balance and secure fittings before it ships.

Natural variation

Naturally One of a Kind

Because each shell grew in the sea, no two are exactly alike. Expect gentle differences in tone, grain and edge from piece to piece and from one light to the next.

  • Milk white
  • Soft ivory
  • Pearl grey
  • Warm honey
  • Fine growth lines

Signs of a real shell, not flaws: faint growth rings, slight color shifts, small irregular edges and tiny natural marks. These details are what separate natural capiz from plastic look-alikes. Care: dust with a soft dry cloth or feather duster with the power off. Keep away from water, steam and cleaning sprays, which can cloud or warp the shell.

The light

A Softer Kind of Light

Capiz filters light instead of blocking it. The result is a glow that is easy on the eyes and flattering to the room.

Diffused, not harsh

The shell spreads the light across its whole surface, so you see a glow rather than a bright bulb.

Gentle patterns

Light slipping between the pieces can trace soft shapes across nearby walls and ceilings.

Warm by nature

The shell's ivory tone adds warmth, giving evenings a relaxed, candle-like mood.

Bulb tip: choose a warm white bulb around 2700K–3000K. A frosted or opal bulb avoids a visible hot spot through thinner shells, and a dimmable bulb with a compatible dimmer lets you lower the glow for evening.

Interior styles

Naturally Versatile

Its quiet color and organic texture let capiz settle into very different interiors without taking over. Choose a style to see it in a room.

Where to avoid: bathrooms, kitchens directly above the stove, and outdoor or damp areas. Steam and moisture can warp or cloud natural shell.

Woven texture and smooth shell make a warm, relaxed coastal pairing.

Linen

Soft fabric echoes the gentle, matte glow of the shell.

Light Oak

Pale wood grain sits naturally beside capiz's ivory tones.

Aged Brass

Warm metal accents pick up the honey glow when the light is on.

Travertine & Stone

Quiet stone adds weight and grounds the lightness of the shell.

Plaster & Ceramic

Matte, hand-finished surfaces keep the room soft and calm.
