Inspiration

The Capelle Pendant Light is a long-drop pendant from the Capelle collection — the same tapered capiz-shell cone shade as the Capelle Flush Mount, hung from a walnut-finish wood canopy on a single black cord, with a walnut wood disc and turned finial below. The shade is pearly and softly translucent, opening upward in a wide cone. Two sizes — small 13.8″ × 11.4″ (35 × 29 cm) and large 19.7″ × 14.2″ (50 × 36 cm) — both with 59″ (150 cm) overall drop. One E27 bulb (included).

Key Features

Capiz-Shell Cone Shade
The shade is real capiz shell pieced into a tapered cone, pearly cream and softly translucent so the bulb glows pearly through the panels.
Walnut Wood Canopy & Finial
A round walnut-finish wood canopy mounts to the ceiling and a wood disc with a turned dark finial sits at the bottom of the shade — the signature trim across the Capelle collection.
59″ / 150 cm Overall Drop
Both sizes hang the same total length from ceiling to finial, so the cord adjusts to balance against shade height.

150 cm overall drop — plan headroom; hardwired, indoor dry use only Both sizes drop a full 59″ (150 cm) from the ceiling to the finial, so this is a long pendant — plan headroom over walkways and tables before installing. The shade is real capiz shell, so each panel's pattern, tone, and translucency vary slightly piece to piece. The canopy and bottom finial are rubber wood in a walnut finish, so wood grain and tone vary as well. It uses one E27 bulb (included) and hardwires to a ceiling junction box; a licensed electrician is recommended for a safe, code-compliant install. Indoor, dry locations only.

Use Case

The Capelle Pendant's capiz-shell cone shade opens upward, so the light throws up the cord and across the ceiling with a soft pearly glow leaking down through the shell — ambient and decorative light over a dining table, in an entryway, or above a kitchen island where you want a real pendant presence rather than a bright task wash. Pick the size to the spot: the small (35 cm shade) suits an entryway, breakfast nook, or stairwell; the large (50 cm shade) suits a dining table, kitchen island, or living room.

Both sizes drop a full 59″ (150 cm) from the ceiling to the finial, so plan headroom — about 30–36″ above a table surface for dining, or roughly 7 ft from the floor over a walkway. The walnut wood canopy, pearly shell shade, and turned wood finial give it a transitional, coastal, vintage look that mixes with wood, rattan, and natural-material rooms — and pairs with the matching Capelle Flush Mount and Capelle Floor Light for a coordinated set. As a hardwired fixture it connects to a ceiling junction box; a licensed electrician is recommended for a safe, code-compliant install. Indoor, dry locations only. FAQ

What size options can I choose, and what's the drop?
Two shade sizes: small at 13.8″ × 11.4″ (35 × 29 cm) and large at 19.7″ × 14.2″ (50 × 36 cm). Both have the same 150 cm (59″) overall drop from ceiling to finial.
What bulb does it use, and is it included?
It uses one E27 (medium screw base) bulb, and the bulb is included.
What is the shade made of?
The shade is real capiz shell pieced into a tapered cone, pearly cream and softly translucent — so the bulb glows pearly through the shell. Each panel's pattern and tone vary slightly piece to piece.
What is the wood — real walnut?
The canopy and bottom finial are rubber wood in a walnut finish, not solid walnut. Real wood, finished to match a walnut tone — grain and color vary slightly piece to piece.
Where does it work best?
Over a dining table, kitchen island, or in an entryway for the large; over a breakfast nook, entry, or stairwell for the small — anywhere you want a long pendant with soft ambient light.
Can I use it in a bathroom or outdoors?
No — shell and wood are for indoor, dry locations only. Keep it out of bathrooms, damp areas, and covered outdoor spaces.

The capiz shell collection

Natural Shell, Sculpted by Light

Capiz is a paper-thin shell from the coastal waters of the Philippines. Cut, layered and assembled by hand, it turns an ordinary bulb into a soft, pearly glow that feels calm in any room.

The material

Beauty Written by Nature

Capiz comes from the windowpane oyster, a flat shellfish whose shell is so thin and clear that it was once used in place of glass in Philippine windows. That same quality is what makes it so good at holding light.

Translucent

Light passes through the shell rather than bouncing off it, so the whole surface glows.

Pearlescent

A quiet mother-of-pearl sheen shifts gently as you move around the room.

Featherlight

Even large shades stay light, so they hang and move easily without bulky hardware.

Organic

A natural material with real growth lines, never a printed or molded imitation.

The structure

Layered for Depth & Dimension

A capiz shade is built from many small pieces rather than one sheet. Where the shells overlap, the light softens; where they sit alone, it shines a little brighter. That play between layers gives the shade depth you can see from across the room.

  • Single layer

The brightest areas, showing the shell's natural grain most clearly.

  • Overlapping layers

Shells placed edge over edge create soft, scale-like tones across the surface.

  • Built-up form

Pieces are joined over a frame or strung into tiers to shape the final silhouette.

Lights off, lights on

Beautiful, Day or Night

Capiz is a decorative piece in its own right. It doesn't wait for the evening to look finished.

Daytime · light off
Capiz shell pendant above a round dining table in daylight, switched off

Soft texture by day

Switched off, the shells read as a calm, pearly white with natural ridges, like a sculpture catching window light.

Evening · light on

Warm glow by night

Switched on, each shell turns a warm honey tone and the overlaps come alive with gentle light and shadow.

The craft

Made by Hand, Piece by Piece

There is no machine that can lay a capiz shade. Every piece passes through skilled hands before it reaches yours.

  1. Clean and select

Shells are washed and sorted by tone and thickness so each light looks balanced.

  2. Soften and flatten

The shells are pressed flat, ready to be cut cleanly without cracking.

  3. Cut to shape

Each piece is cut by hand into discs, squares or petals depending on the design.

  4. Assemble

Pieces are joined, overlapped or strung one at a time around the frame.

  5. Inspect and finish

Every light is checked for spacing, balance and secure fittings before it ships.

Natural variation

Naturally One of a Kind

Because each shell grew in the sea, no two are exactly alike. Expect gentle differences in tone, grain and edge from piece to piece and from one light to the next.

  • Milk white
  • Soft ivory
  • Pearl grey
  • Warm honey
  • Fine growth lines

Signs of a real shell, not flaws: faint growth rings, slight color shifts, small irregular edges and tiny natural marks. These details are what separate natural capiz from plastic look-alikes. Care: dust with a soft dry cloth or feather duster with the power off. Keep away from water, steam and cleaning sprays, which can cloud or warp the shell.

The light

A Softer Kind of Light

Capiz filters light instead of blocking it. The result is a glow that is easy on the eyes and flattering to the room.

Diffused, not harsh

The shell spreads the light across its whole surface, so you see a glow rather than a bright bulb.

Gentle patterns

Light slipping between the pieces can trace soft shapes across nearby walls and ceilings.

Warm by nature

The shell's ivory tone adds warmth, giving evenings a relaxed, candle-like mood.

Bulb tip: choose a warm white bulb around 2700K–3000K. A frosted or opal bulb avoids a visible hot spot through thinner shells, and a dimmable bulb with a compatible dimmer lets you lower the glow for evening.

Interior styles

Naturally Versatile

Its quiet color and organic texture let capiz settle into very different interiors without taking over. Choose a style to see it in a room.

Where to avoid: bathrooms, kitchens directly above the stove, and outdoor or damp areas. Steam and moisture can warp or cloud natural shell.

Woven texture and smooth shell make a warm, relaxed coastal pairing.

Linen

Soft fabric echoes the gentle, matte glow of the shell.

Light Oak

Pale wood grain sits naturally beside capiz's ivory tones.

Aged Brass

Warm metal accents pick up the honey glow when the light is on.

Travertine & Stone

Quiet stone adds weight and grounds the lightness of the shell.

Plaster & Ceramic

Matte, hand-finished surfaces keep the room soft and calm.
