Inspiration

The Walmere Pendant Light is a 3-light cluster pendant with three capiz-shell shades hung at staggered heights from a brushed gold canopy, joined at a center walnut-wood support that curves out like three bent branches. The shells are pearly and softly translucent, the wood is dark walnut, and the cords are black braided fabric. The cluster measures 19.7″ (50 cm) across and 17.7″ (45 cm) tall, with three E27 sockets (bulbs included). It works over a dining table, kitchen island, or entryway.

Key Features

Three Capiz-Shell Shades
Each shade is built from pieced natural capiz shell, lightly translucent so the bulb glows soft and pearly through the panels.
Walnut Wood Center Support
Three curved walnut-wood arms meet at the center and hold the shades, a warm wood spine rather than all-metal hardware.
Staggered Drop Heights
The three shades hang at different lengths from the canopy, so the cluster reads as a sculptural arrangement rather than a flat row.

Good To Know

!
Natural shell & wood — hardwired install, indoor dry use only The shades are pieced from natural capiz shell, so each panel's pattern, tone, and translucency vary slightly piece to piece — characteristic of the material, not defects. The center support is solid walnut, so wood grain varies as well. It uses three E27 bulbs (included) and hardwires to a ceiling junction box; a licensed electrician is recommended for a safe, code-compliant install. Indoor, dry locations only.

Use Case

The Walmere's three capiz-shell shades each diffuse an E27 bulb into a soft, pearly glow, so the cluster gives more spread than a single pendant — good over a dining table, a kitchen island, or in an entryway where you want ambient light with sculptural detail. At 19.7″ (50 cm) across and 17.7″ (45 cm) tall, the cluster covers a small-to-medium spot from a single ceiling canopy, and the staggered shade heights read well over a round table or as a focal piece in a stairwell or entry.

The pearly shells, dark walnut wood, brushed gold canopy, and braided black cords give it a mid-century, coastal, Japandi look that suits dining rooms, kitchens, and living rooms. As a hardwired fixture it connects to a ceiling junction box; a licensed electrician is recommended for a safe, code-compliant install. Indoor, dry locations only — keep it out of bathrooms and covered outdoor areas. For custom requests, email info@docos.us.

FAQ

How many lights does the Walmere have, and what bulbs?
Three lights — one per shade. Each uses an E27 (medium screw base) bulb, and the bulbs are included.
How big is the cluster?
The cluster spans 19.7″ (50 cm) across and stands 17.7″ (45 cm) tall, all hung from a single ceiling canopy.
What are the shades made of?
Each shade is pieced from natural capiz shell — pearly cream and softly translucent, so the panels glow when lit.
What is the wood part?
The center support is solid walnut wood, with three curved arms that hold the shades from a brushed gold canopy.
Can I install it myself or do I need an electrician?
It's a hardwired multi-light fixture connecting to a ceiling junction box. Given the wiring and the three sockets, a licensed electrician is recommended for a safe, code-compliant install.
Can I use it in a bathroom or outdoors?
No — shell and wood are for indoor, dry locations only. Keep it out of bathrooms, damp areas, and covered outdoor spaces.

The capiz shell collection

Natural Shell, Sculpted by Light

Capiz is a paper-thin shell from the coastal waters of the Philippines. Cut, layered and assembled by hand, it turns an ordinary bulb into a soft, pearly glow that feels calm in any room.

The material

Beauty Written by Nature

Capiz comes from the windowpane oyster, a flat shellfish whose shell is so thin and clear that it was once used in place of glass in Philippine windows. That same quality is what makes it so good at holding light.

Translucent

Light passes through the shell rather than bouncing off it, so the whole surface glows.

Pearlescent

A quiet mother-of-pearl sheen shifts gently as you move around the room.

Featherlight

Even large shades stay light, so they hang and move easily without bulky hardware.

Organic

A natural material with real growth lines, never a printed or molded imitation.

The structure

Layered for Depth & Dimension

A capiz shade is built from many small pieces rather than one sheet. Where the shells overlap, the light softens; where they sit alone, it shines a little brighter. That play between layers gives the shade depth you can see from across the room.

  • Single layer

The brightest areas, showing the shell's natural grain most clearly.

  • Overlapping layers

Shells placed edge over edge create soft, scale-like tones across the surface.

  • Built-up form

Pieces are joined over a frame or strung into tiers to shape the final silhouette.

Lights off, lights on

Beautiful, Day or Night

Capiz is a decorative piece in its own right. It doesn't wait for the evening to look finished.

Daytime · light off

Soft texture by day

Switched off, the shells read as a calm, pearly white with natural ridges, like a sculpture catching window light.

Evening · light on

Warm glow by night

Switched on, each shell turns a warm honey tone and the overlaps come alive with gentle light and shadow.

The craft

Made by Hand, Piece by Piece

There is no machine that can lay a capiz shade. Every piece passes through skilled hands before it reaches yours.

  1. Clean and select

Shells are washed and sorted by tone and thickness so each light looks balanced.

  2. Soften and flatten

The shells are pressed flat, ready to be cut cleanly without cracking.

  3. Cut to shape

Each piece is cut by hand into discs, squares or petals depending on the design.

  4. Assemble

Pieces are joined, overlapped or strung one at a time around the frame.

  5. Inspect and finish

Every light is checked for spacing, balance and secure fittings before it ships.

Natural variation

Naturally One of a Kind

Because each shell grew in the sea, no two are exactly alike. Expect gentle differences in tone, grain and edge from piece to piece and from one light to the next.

  • Milk white
  • Soft ivory
  • Pearl grey
  • Warm honey
  • Fine growth lines

Signs of a real shell, not flaws: faint growth rings, slight color shifts, small irregular edges and tiny natural marks. These details are what separate natural capiz from plastic look-alikes. Care: dust with a soft dry cloth or feather duster with the power off. Keep away from water, steam and cleaning sprays, which can cloud or warp the shell.

Capiz shell cluster pendant casting soft dappled light on the walls
The light

A Softer Kind of Light

Capiz filters light instead of blocking it. The result is a glow that is easy on the eyes and flattering to the room.

Diffused, not harsh

The shell spreads the light across its whole surface, so you see a glow rather than a bright bulb.

Gentle patterns

Light slipping between the pieces can trace soft shapes across nearby walls and ceilings.

Warm by nature

The shell's ivory tone adds warmth, giving evenings a relaxed, candle-like mood.

Bulb tip: choose a warm white bulb around 2700K–3000K. A frosted or opal bulb avoids a visible hot spot through thinner shells, and a dimmable bulb with a compatible dimmer lets you lower the glow for evening.

Interior styles

Naturally Versatile

Its quiet color and organic texture let capiz settle into very different interiors without taking over. Choose a style to see it in a room.

Quiet stone adds weight and grounds the lightness of the shell.

Plaster & Ceramic

Matte, hand-finished surfaces keep the room soft and calm.
