Blixen Wall Lamp

Blixen is built from parts that used to be standard: a wood backplate, a pleated fabric shade, a pull chain hanging where you can find it in the dark. None of it is new, and that's the intent — this is the lamp from a guest room in an old house, the one you reach up and click before bed. The pleats keep the light soft, the wood keeps it warm, and the chain gives it something to do with your hand.

At W7″ × H11.8″ it's a compact sconce, which makes it the obvious answer beside a bed — a pair flanking the headboard frees up both nightstands, and the pull chain means you don't need a switch wired within reach. It also suits a hallway, a stairwell, a reading corner, or a spot beside an armchair. It's rated for indoor dry locations, so keep it out of bathrooms and covered outdoor areas. One bulb behind pleated fabric gives soft ambient light rather than a reading beam, so if you read in bed, aim for a higher-output LED within the 40W-equivalent limit.
