Inspiration

Emerald begins with sea glass — the flat, tumbled fragments that turn up on a shoreline, edges worn soft and color trapped somewhere in the middle. Here those fragments are set as discs in staggered tiers, angled so no two catch the light the same way. Unlit it reads as a cluster of suspended plates; lit, the color pools in the thick parts of each disc and scatters through the thin ones. The tiers do the rest, throwing overlapping shadows onto the ceiling.

Pick the diameter from the surface below: roughly half to two thirds the width of a dining table, with the glass hanging 30–36″ above the top. Ø19.6″ suits a table for four, Ø23.6″ a table for six, Ø31.4″ a large table or an open living room. Then pick the height — the shorter version of each diameter is the safer choice on a standard 8 ft ceiling, while the taller one gains an extra tier of drop and is worth it at 9 ft and above, or over a stairwell where you see the fixture from more than one level.

The light is scattered rather than directional: 6 to 12 small E14 lamps refracting through layered glass, which is why a dimmer earns its keep in a dining room. The iridescent white keeps a room feeling bright and shifts through faint rainbow tints as you move; blue, green, pink, and orange throw real color onto nearby surfaces. Which size should I choose — and why two heights?

Choose the diameter at roughly half to two thirds the table width, hung 30–36″ above the top: Ø19.6″ for four seats, Ø23.6″ for six, Ø31.4″ for a large table or open room. The taller version of each diameter adds a tier of drop — better at 9 ft ceilings and above, or in a stairwell; on a standard 8 ft ceiling the shorter version is the safer pick.

How heavy is it, and what does my ceiling need?

From 9.1 kg (20 lbs) up to 21.4 kg (47 lbs) depending on model. The smaller sizes are within range of a securely fixed ceiling box, but for the Ø31.4″ models have the fixing checked against the weight — usually blocking or a bracket fixed to a joist. Confirm it with your electrician before ordering; the Installation Guide above has the detail.

What bulbs does it use — are they included?

It uses E14 bulbs — the European small screw base — 6 to 12 depending on model, at 15W each incandescent or the LED equivalent. Warm white 3000K bulbs are included and replaceable. Note E14 is not the same as the US E12 candelabra base, so buy replacements listed as E14.

Does it arrive assembled? How fragile is the glass?

The glass discs are fitted to the frame during installation rather than shipped attached, so budget time for it and use a second pair of hands on the larger models. Handle each disc by its body rather than the rim, and support it from below when cleaning.
