Natural Shell, Sculpted by Light
Capiz is a paper-thin shell from the coastal waters of the Philippines. Cut, layered and assembled by hand, it turns an ordinary bulb into a soft, pearly glow that feels calm in any room.

Beauty Written by Nature
Capiz comes from the windowpane oyster, a flat shellfish whose shell is so thin and clear that it was once used in place of glass in Philippine windows. That same quality is what makes it so good at holding light.
Translucent
Light passes through the shell rather than bouncing off it, so the whole surface glows.
Pearlescent
A quiet mother-of-pearl sheen shifts gently as you move around the room.
Featherlight
Even large shades stay light, so they hang and move easily without bulky hardware.
Organic
A natural material with real growth lines, never a printed or molded imitation.

Layered for Depth & Dimension
A capiz shade is built from many small pieces rather than one sheet. Where the shells overlap, the light softens; where they sit alone, it shines a little brighter. That play between layers gives the shade depth you can see from across the room.
Single layer
The brightest areas, showing the shell's natural grain most clearly.
Overlapping layers
Shells placed edge over edge create soft, scale-like tones across the surface.
Built-up form
Pieces are joined over a frame or strung into tiers to shape the final silhouette.
Beautiful, Day or Night
Capiz is a decorative piece in its own right. It doesn't wait for the evening to look finished.

Soft texture by day
Switched off, the shells read as a calm, pearly white with natural ridges, like a sculpture catching window light.

Warm glow by night
Switched on, each shell turns a warm honey tone and the overlaps come alive with gentle light and shadow.

Made by Hand, Piece by Piece
There is no machine that can lay a capiz shade. Every piece passes through skilled hands before it reaches yours.
Clean and select
Shells are washed and sorted by tone and thickness so each light looks balanced.
Soften and flatten
The shells are pressed flat, ready to be cut cleanly without cracking.
Cut to shape
Each piece is cut by hand into discs, squares or petals depending on the design.
Assemble
Pieces are joined, overlapped or strung one at a time around the frame.
Inspect and finish
Every light is checked for spacing, balance and secure fittings before it ships.
Naturally One of a Kind
Because each shell grew in the sea, no two are exactly alike. Expect gentle differences in tone, grain and edge from piece to piece and from one light to the next.
- Milk white
- Soft ivory
- Pearl grey
- Warm honey
- Fine growth lines
Signs of a real shell, not flaws: faint growth rings, slight color shifts, small irregular edges and tiny natural marks. These details are what separate natural capiz from plastic look-alikes. Care: dust with a soft dry cloth or feather duster with the power off. Keep away from water, steam and cleaning sprays, which can cloud or warp the shell.

A Softer Kind of Light
Capiz filters light instead of blocking it. The result is a glow that is easy on the eyes and flattering to the room.
Diffused, not harsh
The shell spreads the light across its whole surface, so you see a glow rather than a bright bulb.
Gentle patterns
Light slipping between the pieces can trace soft shapes across nearby walls and ceilings.
Warm by nature
The shell's ivory tone adds warmth, giving evenings a relaxed, candle-like mood.
Bulb tip: choose a warm white bulb around 2700K–3000K. A frosted or opal bulb avoids a visible hot spot through thinner shells, and a dimmable bulb with a compatible dimmer lets you lower the glow for evening.
Naturally Versatile
Its quiet color and organic texture let capiz settle into very different interiors without taking over. Choose a style to see it in a room.

One Material, Many Expressions
From a single pendant to a statement chandelier, the same natural shell takes on many forms.
Designed for the Rooms You Live In
Capiz suits the dry indoor rooms where you slow down. A few simple guides help you place it well.

Dining Room
A pendant or chandelier centered over the table sets an easy, relaxed mood for long dinners.
Hang the bottom about 30″–36″ / 76–91 cm above the tabletop.
Living Room
A larger fixture becomes a centerpiece by day and gentle ambient light by night.
Pair with a table or floor lamp for layered evening light.
Bedroom
Soft, glare-free light helps the room wind down at the end of the day.
Use bedside pendants or sconces for a calm alternative to table lamps.
Entryway & Stairs
A shell pendant greets guests with warmth and looks striking from below.
Leave at least 7 ft / 213 cm of clearance where people walk underneath.
Nursery & Kids' Rooms
A low, warm glow is soothing for night feeds and bedtime stories.
Choose ceiling-mounted styles kept well out of reach.
Reading Nook & Office
Adds warmth to work and reading corners without a cold, clinical feel.
Add a focused task lamp for detailed work.Where to avoid: bathrooms, kitchens directly above the stove, and outdoor or damp areas. Steam and moisture can warp or cloud natural shell.
Materials That Belong Together
Capiz looks its best next to other natural, tactile materials. These pairings feel balanced and easy to live with.
Rattan & Cane
