Inspiration

The Olivaro Floor Lamp is built like a striped beach-club umbrella folded into a column. Cotton thread is wound in tight vertical rows over a metal frame, alternating bands of rust brown and cream, and the same stripes run down the drum shade and the tall cylinder beneath it so shade and stem read as one piece. Lit from within, the thread lets light glow through the cream bands while the brown ones hold it back, which is why this striped cotton thread column floor lamp was designed as ambient light for a living room corner, bedroom, or reading nook in mid-century and retro homes.

Which size should I pick?

The 120cm/47″ lamp sits at armrest-plus height beside a sofa or bed; the 150cm/59″ lamp stands at shoulder height and holds its own in a larger living room corner.

How does light come through the stripes?

The cream thread is thin enough to glow; the rust thread is darker and mostly blocks light, so the shade shows bright and dark bands. Light also spills from the open top and bottom of the drum. It reads as ambient light, not a task lamp.

Is the column lit too?

The bulb sits inside the shade, and its glow reaches down into the open top of the column, so the upper part of the cylinder lights up softly below the shade.

How do I switch it on?

With the round foot switch on the plug-in cord. There is no switch on the column or socket, so nothing breaks the stripes.
