Rivelle Ceramic Vase

The Rivelle Ceramic Vase starts with fluting — the vertical channel cut into a stone column, repeated around the whole shaft so that light has something to catch as it travels across the surface. The four forms take that one device and move it onto domestic vessels: a lidded jar, a pitcher shape, and two short pieces where the flutes stop in arches near the base, the way a column meets its plinth. Gold is run along the ridges, following the grooves rather than crossing them, so the line work traces the structure instead of sitting on top of it.

Style A stands 48 cm with its lid on, which makes it a floor-adjacent or console piece rather than a tabletop one — set it at one end of an entryway console, on a fireplace mantel, or flanking a hutch in a French country dining room, and leave the lid on so it reads as a covered jar. Style B is the one most people reach for on a kitchen island: a fluted ceramic pitcher vase for a farmhouse kitchen counter, loose with garden roses, tulips or dried wheat. Styles D and E are small enough for a bathroom vanity, a nightstand, or a bedroom dresser, and the two heights group well together on open shelving. The mottled greige-cream glaze sits against painted cabinetry, natural wood and unbleached linen without pulling attention, and the gold lining picks up warm light from a nearby lamp in the evening.
