Inspiration

The Clasten Alabaster Wall Sconce reduces a sconce to two elements: a column of stone and the plate that holds it. Alabaster has been used this way since antiquity — thin enough to pass light, dense enough to soften it — and cutting it as a plain cylinder leaves nothing between the material and the eye. The brass backplate is kept to a flat rectangle for the same reason. No shade, no diffuser, no visible fitting; the stone is the fixture.

Key Features

Hand-Cut Alabaster Cylinder
Cut from a single block of natural gypsum stone into a vertical cylinder — no two pieces alike.
Solid Brass Backplate
A clean vertical rectangle in warm gold-tone — minimal hardware, so the stone leads visually.
Even Glow, No Hotspots
Light passes through the translucent stone rather than around it, so the whole column lights evenly.
Available Sizes

Two sizes — same 3.1″ (8 cm) cylinder width, same alabaster, brass backplate and socket; only the height changes.

Size Inches Centimeters Suits
Compact W 3.1″ × H 11″ W 8 × H 28 cm Bedside, narrow hallway, powder room
Tall W 3.1″ × H 12.6″ W 8 × H 32 cm Vanity mirror, foyer, feature wall

At a vanity, mount the center of the fixture 60–66″ (150–170 cm) above the floor; elsewhere, align it with adjacent art or mirror heights. For hand-matched pairs, email info@docos.us.

FAQ

What is G9, and where do I buy replacement bulbs?
G9 is a small bi-pin base — two short prongs instead of a screw thread, smaller than the standard US E26. G9 LED bulbs are stocked on Amazon, at Home Depot and Lowe's, and by Lumens and Bulbrite; search "G9 LED bulb" or "G9 bi-pin LED." A bulb is included and fully replaceable. Use LED only, max 7W, 3000Kdo not use halogen, which runs hot inside the cylinder and can cause heat-stress cracking or discoloration over time.
Will my alabaster cylinder look exactly like the photo?
No, and that's the material. Each cylinder is cut from a single block, so veining, tone (some read warmer honey, others cooler cream) and translucency vary piece to piece — the listing photo is representative, not a guaranteed match. For pairs that need to match closely, email info@docos.us and we'll hand-select, pulling two cylinders from the same block where possible.
Can I use it in a bathroom, and how do I clean alabaster?
A powder room with no shower is fine, as is a vanity mirror in the dry zone of a larger bathroom, well away from shower steam. A full bathroom with shower steam is not recommended — alabaster is porous, and repeated humidity cycles cause staining and surface degradation. Outdoors, no. Clean with a dry microfiber cloth only: no water, vinegar, alcohol or household cleaners.
How is it installed?
It's hardwired to a standard wall junction box — the brass backplate fixes to the box and the alabaster cylinder slides onto the socket housing. A licensed electrician is recommended, partly because the stone is moderately fragile and chips if dropped. Confirm the junction box sits where you want the center of the fixture before drilling new holes.
Alabaster — Natural Stone Lighting

The light lives
in the stone.

Hand-cut alabaster lighting that glows from within — chandeliers, pendants, sconces, and lamps, each carved from a single block of natural stone.

The Craft

From a block of stone
to light in your room.

Alabaster can't be moulded or mass-pressed — it is cut. Every shade starts as solid stone and is worked by hand until it's thin enough to glow evenly. That's why no two are the same.

01

Quarried

Blocks of natural alabaster are extracted and graded for translucency and the quality of their veining before any cutting begins.

02

Cut & shaped

Each block is sliced and turned or carved to form, then hollowed so a bulb can sit behind the stone wall.

03

Hand-finished

The walls are sanded to an even thickness so light passes through without dark patches, then polished by hand.

04

Wired & assembled

Fitted with brass hardware and wired to a 120V, ETL-compliant build, then inspected before it ships.

Why Alabaster

What makes it read as something rarer.

Translucent, not opaque

Light passes through the stone itself — the lit-from-inside quality you can't get from glass or acrylic.

Veining unique to your piece

Cut from a solid block, so the cloud-like veining is its own. No two alabaster fixtures are identical.

Warm and glare-free

The stone scatters light rather than aiming it. Pair with a 2700K bulb; most fixtures dim on a compatible LED dimmer.

Made for layered rooms

A soft accent beside stronger overhead light — at home with wood, linen, and brass in modern interiors.

Lit From Within

It doesn't light the room.
It becomes the light.

Switched off, an alabaster fixture is a quiet stone object. Switched on, the whole piece glows — sculpture you happen to be able to turn on.

The Collection

A gallery of carved light.

Chandeliers, pendants, sconces, table and floor lamps — all cut from natural alabaster, most paired with brass. Dozens of pieces in all.

Find My Size

Which alabaster light
for which room.

Dining & Island

Hang a linear pendant or chandelier roughly 30–36″ above the surface. For a 6–8′ island, size the fixture or cluster to about two-thirds the counter length.

Foyer & Stairwell

Two-story spaces suit a tiered chandelier — Corbett or Miira. Keep the lowest point at least 7′ off the floor in a walkway.

Bedside & Hallway

A wall sconce — Ando, Marmo, Velora — frees the nightstand and adds the soft accent layer. Plug-in versions skip the hardwiring.

Living Room & Den

A table lamp — Marie, Pico — anchors a reading corner with warm light beside your overheads.

Questions

Alabaster lighting, answered.

Is alabaster lighting durable, or does the stone chip easily?

Alabaster is a solid, fine-grained stone with real weight — not fragile in normal use. It is softer than marble, so avoid knocks and harsh chemical cleaners. A soft, dry cloth keeps it looking right for years.

Will my alabaster fixture look exactly like the photo?

No — and that's by design. Each shade is cut from natural stone, so the veining and tone are unique to your piece. The product photo shows a representative example; yours will have its own distinct veining.

What bulb and colour temperature work best with alabaster?

Use a 2700K warm-white LED to bring out the honeyed, candle-like tone in the stone. Cooler bulbs make alabaster look gray. Most fixtures take an E26 or G9 base — check the product page — and dim with a compatible LED dimmer.

Which alabaster fixture should I choose for my room size?

Chandeliers (Corbett, Kurve, Miira) suit dining rooms and two-story foyers; pendants suit kitchen islands; sconces suit bedsides and hallways. Send us your dimensions for a free 3D preview to scale before you order.
