Elarion Ceramic Vase

The Elarion Ceramic Vase looks back at the painting on early utilitarian storage jars — vessels made to hold grain and oil, decorated fast by hands that had drawn the same motif a thousand times over. That speed is what the pattern keeps. A fish is put down in a few strokes with its scales scored straight through the pigment; cloud scrolls circle a rosette without ever quite closing the ring; bamboo and a bird are sketched loose enough that the brush lifts mid-line. Nothing is centered or measured, and the ground is left mottled and off-white rather than bright.

Styles A and B are round and roughly as wide as they are tall, which keeps them low enough for a dining room table centerpiece or a kitchen island where you still want a sightline across the counter. Style B's 12.7 cm inner mouth takes a full, loose arrangement — hydrangea, dried pampas, wheat — while Style A's closed globe form reads well on its own on open shelving or a bedroom dresser. Style C stands 37 cm tall on a 20 cm footprint, so it works as a vertical accent: an entryway console, one end of a fireplace mantel, or a bookshelf where a wide jar would sit heavy, with two or three tall branches through its narrow 8 cm inner mouth.
