Inspiration

The Meldren Pendant Lamp started from sea glass and from thin sheets of ice breaking up on a pond in early spring, flat pieces that overlap at odd angles with color drifting through them. We made each panel as a thick square of glass with soft, uneven edges and streaks of color running through it, then hung the panels in an overlapping ring around the bulb. A short chain and a slim rod hold the ring, in a bright chrome-tone finish. Lit, the streaks of color come forward and the rippled glass breaks the light into soft waves.

Which color should I choose?

Clear and White are the most neutral and give the brightest light. Amber, Sage Green and Forest Green cast a warmer, tinted glow. Blue, Pink, Purple and Multicolor make the pendant a color accent in the room.

How many do I need over a kitchen island?

At 20cm/7.9″ wide, it is a small pendant, so most islands use a row of two or three spaced about 60–75cm/24–30″ apart. Hang the bottom about 75–90cm/30–36″ above the counter.

What kind of light does it give?

Soft, tinted ambient light. Light passes through the glass on all sides and falls through the open bottom, taking on the color of the panels. It works as accent or mood light rather than bright task light.

Which bulb should I use?

A 12W warm-light bulb is included. The socket is E14, a small screw base; standard E26 bulbs and US E12 candelabra bulbs will not fit. For replacements use an E14 LED bulb at 3000K.
