The Valmire Table Lamp comes from painted porcelain set against a black ground, where a garden seems to appear out of the night. The base is ceramic in a deep glossy black, hand-painted in two scenes. On the round, moon-flask base, a spotted leopard lies stretched along a branch among pale blue and pink blossoms and fine fern leaves, with a thin gold-tone band at the neck and foot. On the ovoid jar base, butterflies in rainbow tones drift across the black glaze above a checked band at the foot. The shade changes the mood: a mint-and-white checkered drum with a printed flower border, a plain white drum, or a tapered white shade for the butterfly jar. Lit, the shade glows and the painting stays bright against the dark glaze.

Every Docos base is shaped, glazed, and fired by artisans with decades of practice. We fire our stoneware to 1300°C — nearly twice the heat of standard ceramics — giving each piece the density of stone and the smoothness of jade. No two are identical. None of them are accidents.
