The Vareston Table Lamp takes its shape from a small mushroom on the forest floor whose cap has grown at an angle. The base is a rounded piece of solid wood, dark and smooth like a stem pushing up through the soil, with a brass-tone collar where the bulb sits. Above it the linen shade is a shallow cone tipped to one side on a single arm, like a cap knocked sideways, so one edge dips low and the other lifts to show the bulb underneath. When it is on, warm light spreads across the inside of the linen and falls in a soft pool on the table below, with a little more on the open side.

From measurement to finish, woodworking demands a balance of structure and patience. Every cut is squared, every joint dry-fit, every surface hand-sanded to 220 grit before oiling.
