Inspiration

The Pastellea is closer to painted china than to lighting. A shallow ceramic drum takes a watercolor floral band around its outside and a pink line at the rim — the way a good teacup is decorated, pattern on the wall and colour on the edge. The inside is finished in warm gold, so the glaze catches light before it leaves the shade, and what falls on the table below arrives already warmed.

Which configuration fits my surface?
Go by bar length against the surface length — around 60–75% is a comfortable proportion. The 23.6″ bar suits surfaces roughly 32–40″ long, the 39.4″ bar roughly 53–66″. Note the shades are small at 8.1″ across, so a single pendant reads as an accent rather than a main light; over anything wider than a bedside table, the linear versions carry the space better.
How careful do I need to be with the painted ceramic?
Treat it like decorated china rather than a glass shade. Dust dry only — water and household cleaners can lift the painted band over time, and the gold interior dulls if scrubbed. When changing a bulb, support the shade from underneath rather than gripping the rim, since the rim is the thinnest part and the first place a chip shows.
Will the pattern match the photos?
Closely, but not exactly. The floral band is applied by hand, so placement of the motifs and the depth of the pink vary between shades — including between shades on the same bar. On a 2- or 3-light, that variation reads as a set of related pieces rather than a printed repeat, which is the intent.
