Inspiration

The Skylisse borrows its stem from spindle turning — the stacked beads and swellings of an old bedpost or stair baluster, where a lathe left a rhythm of curves instead of a straight line. Painting that profile powder blue rather than staining it takes the weight out of the reference and leaves the shape reading as something almost toy-like. The shade answers with a scalloped, petal-cut hem, so nothing on the lamp finishes on a hard edge.

Is 55.9″ the right height beside a sofa or bed?

For a floor lamp used for reading, the ideal is for the bottom of the shade to sit near eye level when you're seated — roughly 47–60″ off the floor for most sofas and armchairs, which puts this lamp in the right band. How do I deal with marks on the white shade?

Dust it regularly — most discoloration on a white shade is accumulated dust rather than staining. For a mark, dab with a barely damp cloth and let it dry fully; don't rub or soak the fabric, since water rings on a light shade are harder to fix than the original mark. Test on the inside face first.
