Inspiration

Printed cotton used to end up everywhere in a country house except overhead — curtains, cushions, a tablecloth, the lining of a sewing basket. The Calico Bloom takes that bolt of floral cotton and wraps a drum with it, then finishes the top with a turned wooden finial borrowed from furniture rather than lighting. Lit from inside, the print does something it can't do on a curtain: the pattern warms and softens as light passes through the weave.

FAQ

Which size suits my table?

A workable rule is a shade roughly half to two-thirds the width of the table. The small suits tables around 30–36″ wide; the large suits 36–48″ or a round table seating six. The two extra sockets on the large size also matter if this is the room's only light — a printed shade absorbs more light than a plain one, so five bulbs behind pattern is closer to three behind cream.

Will the print fade?

Printed cotton fades with prolonged direct sunlight, not with the bulbs inside — the included LEDs run cool and emit no meaningful UV. If the fixture hangs where afternoon sun lands on it through a west window, expect the reds in the floral to soften first over a few years. Away from direct sun, the print holds.

Which print for which room?

The red floral is the louder of the two — it works where the room is otherwise plain, and it warms further once lit. The green botanical reads quieter and cooler, and sits more easily alongside existing pattern in curtains or upholstery. Both use the same walnut-toned wood hardware, so either can follow the wood tones already in the room.
