Inspiration

The Elvarith Alabaster Wall Sconce is a moon on a bracket. A single Spanish alabaster globe sits on a short brass stub set into a round backplate, close to the wall like a planet held on a display stand, and a long beaded brass pull chain drops from the plate's edge, borrowed from the pull-cord lamps of old reading rooms. There is no arm to speak of, just plate, joint, and stone. Lit from within, the globe glows cloud-white with amber veins in every direction, which is why this alabaster globe wall sconce with pull chain was designed for either side of a bed, a hallway, or a stair landing in mid-century, minimalist, and organic-modern homes.

How high should I mount it beside a bed?

Set the backplate about 130–140cm/51–55″ from the floor. The globe then sits at shoulder height when seated and the pull chain hangs within reach from the pillow.

How does the light come out?

Alabaster is translucent, so the whole globe glows softly in every direction with the stone's veins showing through. It reads as ambient light, not a reading spot.

Why G9?

The globe is only 15cm across, and a G9 LED is compact enough to sit inside without a hot spot. One is included.

Do I need a wall switch?

No. The pull chain turns the sconce on and off at the fixture, so it can also be wired to an always-on circuit.

The Craft

From a block of stone
to light in your room.

Alabaster can't be moulded or mass-pressed — it is cut. Every shade starts as solid stone and is worked by hand until it's thin enough to glow evenly. That's why no two are the same.

Quarried

Blocks of natural alabaster are extracted and graded for translucency and the quality of their veining before any cutting begins.

Cut & shaped

Each block is sliced and turned or carved to form, then hollowed so a bulb can sit behind the stone wall.

Hand-finished

The walls are sanded to an even thickness so light passes through without dark patches, then polished by hand.

Wired & assembled

Fitted with brass hardware and wired to a 120V, safety-certified build, then inspected before it ships.

Is alabaster lighting durable, or does the stone chip easily?

Alabaster is a solid, fine-grained stone with real weight — not fragile in normal use. It is softer than marble, so avoid knocks and harsh chemical cleaners. A soft, dry cloth keeps it looking right for years.

Will my alabaster fixture look exactly like the photo?

No — and that's by design. Each shade is cut from natural stone, so the veining and tone are unique to your piece. The product photo shows a representative example; yours will have its own distinct veining.

What bulb and colour temperature work best with alabaster?

Use a 2700K warm-white LED to bring out the honeyed, candle-like tone in the stone. Cooler bulbs make alabaster look gray. Most fixtures take an E26 or G9 base — check the product page — and dim with a compatible LED dimmer.

Which alabaster fixture should I choose for my room size?
