Avelisse Wall Sconce

The Avelisse takes the looped shades of our tiered chandelier and lays them against a wall. Each element is a ribbon of ceramic bent back on itself and left open at the ends, so the light escapes at the curves rather than straight out — what you see from the side is a run of arcs, and what lands on the wall is a stack of soft shadows. Turned on its side and reduced to three loops, the chandelier's rhythm survives at a scale that fits a hallway.

One size. Beside a bed, mount the center around 56–60″ (142–152 cm) from the floor, or roughly 18″ above the mattress. Down a hallway, a run of two or three spaced 6–8 ft apart gives the loops their rhythm; keep 7 ft of floor clearance in a passage.
