Inspiration

The Velmora Flush Mount Ceiling Light is a parasol turned upside down. The shade is a shallow bowl of natural linen stretched over a metal frame, and every seam is piped in the same cloth so the ribs show as raised lines running from the rim to the center, exactly the way the spokes of a canvas sun umbrella print through the fabric. The edge is cut in soft scallops, one dip between each rib, like the hem of an old garden parasol. Three brass chains lift the bowl a hand's width off a round brass canopy, and a small frosted disc closes the very bottom, so the light comes through the weave in a warm, even glow with a brighter spot at the center.

Yes. Total drop is only 16–30cm/6.3–11.8″ by size, so it suits 2.4m/8 ft ceilings where a pendant would hang too low.

Where does the light go?

Most light passes through the linen as a soft, even glow, some spills up through the gap between bowl and ceiling, and the small frosted disc at the bottom gives a brighter center. Ambient light, not a task light.

Which bulbs should I use?
