The Waldena Table Light takes its shade from dressmaking rather than lampmaking. Folding the fabric into deep box pleats gives the cone its ribs, and letting the hem fall in scallops instead of a straight edge finishes it the way a skirt would be finished. The ash base is turned on a lathe to a plain column with a single black bead at the neck — one detail, then nothing else, so the pleating stays the thing you look at.
The Waldena works as a bedside lamp on a nightstand, an accent lamp on an entry console, or a corner light on a living-room sideboard. The pleated shade and warm bulb give an ambient glow — soft enough for a bedroom, and bright enough to read by beside a bed or chair. The turned ash base and scalloped hem sit well with linen, rattan and natural wood.
