What are the exact dimensions of the Brinelle Semi-Flush Mount?

Shade diameter is 18.9″ (48 cm) and total height is 11.8″ (30 cm). The shade hangs about 12″ below the ceiling.

What style is the Brinelle?

Vintage and antique-inspired with farmhouse, rustic, coastal, and boho design elements.

What light source does it use?

Three E26 or E27 medium base bulbs (40W max per socket). Warm white 3000K bulbs are included. It is dimmable with an LED-rated wall dimmer and dimmable LED bulbs.

How is this light installed?

It is a semi-flush ceiling mount that hardwires to a standard US junction box at 120V. The short stem holds it about 12″ below the ceiling, suitable for 8 ft ceilings or higher.

What care does the raffia shade require?

Dust with a soft brush or microfiber duster. Avoid water, as moisture warps the natural fiber. Wipe the gold canopy with a dry cloth only — do not polish, as it strips the finish.

Inspiration

The Brinelle Flush Mount began with the woven sun hats left hanging by the door of a coastal summer house — brim wide, edge soft, ribbon stitched around it by hand. That millinery logic shaped the fixture: a drum brim divided into scalloped panels by vertical ribbon, falling to a gently wavy hem instead of a hard rim. Warm gold hardware stands in for the polished brass fittings of an older shore cottage. The result behaves more like a textile than a light fitting — quiet, unhurried, and made to sit close overhead.

Key Features

Hand-Woven Raffia Shade

Natural raffia palm fiber woven by hand into a drum silhouette. Light filters through the weave for a textured glow — finer and softer than rattan.

Scalloped Ribbon Trim

Six vertical white ribbon panels divide the shade into scalloped sections, ending in a wavy lower edge that reads like a fluted skirt.

Low-Profile Gold Canopy

Warm gold metal ceiling plate and short stem hold the shade about 12″ below the ceiling — close enough for 8 ft ceilings without losing headroom.

Use Case

Center the Brinelle over the bed in a main or guest bedroom, or over a four-seat dining table where a pendant would hang too low. In hallways and entryways the 18.9″ diameter spreads light across narrow circulation space without crowding the ceiling, and it works equally well over a home office desk.

Pair with linen bedding, oak or rattan furniture, woven baskets, and warm metal hardware. The included 3000K bulbs give a soft ambient wash; add an LED-rated dimmer for day-to-evening adjustment.

FAQ

What's the difference between raffia and rattan?

Raffia is woven from the fine fibers of raffia palm leaves — finer, softer, and lighter than rattan, which is a thicker climbing palm stem. Raffia gives a delicate textile-like weave that filters light evenly, while rattan reads chunkier and more rustic. The Brinelle uses raffia for a softer coastal and Hamptons look.

Is this a flush mount or a semi-flush mount?

Technically a semi-flush mount. The canopy sits against the ceiling on a short stem, so the bottom of the shade hangs about 12″ down — low enough to suit 8 ft ceilings, but not as flat as a true flush mount that sits within 4″ of the ceiling.

Can I install it myself, or do I need an electrician?

It hardwires to a standard US ceiling junction box, so a confident DIYer with hardwire experience can handle it — but a licensed electrician is recommended for code compliance and a safe hookup. The raffia shade is lightweight, so no reinforced bracing is needed.

Will it work with my existing dimmer?

Only if the dimmer is LED-rated. Older incandescent dimmers may flicker or buzz on an LED load — check the dimmer spec sheet before installing.
