Inspiration

Blixen is built from parts that used to be standard: a wood backplate, a pleated fabric shade, a pull chain hanging where you can find it in the dark. None of it is new, and that's the intent — this is the lamp from a guest room in an old house, the one you reach up and click before bed. The pleats keep the light soft, the wood keeps it warm, and the chain gives it something to do with your hand.

Key Features

Pleated Fabric Shade

A pleated fabric shade diffuses the bulb into a soft, even wash — no glare, no bright spot on the wall.

Wood Body, Three Finishes

A wood body with metal fittings, in gold, walnut, or beige — warm enough to sit with existing wood furniture.

Pull-Chain Switch

A pull chain on the fixture turns it on and off, so it works even where there's no wall switch on that circuit.

Use Case

At W7″ × H11.8″ it's a compact sconce, which makes it the obvious answer beside a bed — a pair flanking the headboard frees up both nightstands, and the pull chain means you don't need a switch wired within reach. It also suits a hallway, a stairwell, a reading corner, or a spot beside an armchair. It's rated for indoor dry locations, so keep it out of bathrooms and covered outdoor areas. One bulb behind pleated fabric gives soft ambient light rather than a reading beam, so if you read in bed, aim for a higher-output LED within the 40W-equivalent limit. Gold reads dressier, walnut warmer, beige quietest. Email info@docos.us for trade pricing or to ask about a finish.

FAQ

What bulb does it use — is it included?

It takes one E26 or E27 bulb (the standard medium screw base — E26 in the US, E27 in Europe and Asia, same physical socket here), up to 40W incandescent or the LED equivalent. A warm white 3000K bulb is included and fully replaceable.

How do I turn it on — do I need a wall switch?

There's a pull chain on the fixture, so you can switch it on and off at the lamp itself. That makes it a good fit for a bedside or hallway box with no switch wired to it. If the circuit does have a wall switch, that works too, and it's dimmer compatible with a dimmable bulb.

Can it go in a bathroom or outdoors?

No — it's rated for indoor dry locations only, so it isn't suitable for a bathroom or a covered outdoor area. The shade is fabric and the body is wood, and steam, damp air, and outdoor humidity will mark the pleats and swell the wood over time.

How is it installed, and how big is it?

It's hardwired to a standard wall junction box, and a licensed electrician is recommended. The fixture measures W7″ × H11.8″ (W18 × H30 cm) — compact enough for a pair beside a bed or either side of a mirror without crowding the wall.
