Donuts kwam voort uit een gewoonte uit het midden van de twintigste eeuw die we steeds opnieuw tegenkwamen: een lamp maken uit één eenvoudige vorm en weigeren nog iets anders toe te voegen. Het is dus een ring — een ondiep glasschijf met een gat in het midden, getint in de amberkleur van oud geperst glas in plaats van geschilderd. Van de muur af gezien ziet het er als een object uit; verlicht warmt de tint alles wat het licht raakt op. Er verstopt niets achter. Dat was het voornemen.

Met Ø11.8″ en minder dan 4″ diep past Donuts plat genoeg in krappe ruimtes — naast een bed, bank of spiegel, langs een gang of trap, of plat op het plafond van een slaapkamer of entree met lage plafonds. Monteer een paar aan beide zijden van een bed op ongeveer 60–66″ hoogte, of plaats drie langs een gang ongeveer 32–40″ uit elkaar — controleer alleen of het stopcontact binnen bereik van het snoer is. De amberkleurige tint zorgt ervoor dat het licht warm aanvoelt ongeacht welke kleurinstelling je kiest, dus het ziet er uit als sfeerlicht in plaats van tafelicht — voeg een leeslamp toe waar je detail moet zien.
