The Calyra draws from the heritage of Murano, the Venetian island renowned since the 13th century for its master glassblowers. The Calyra is inspired by — not manufactured in — Murano. The Venetian island of Murano has been the centre of Italian glassblowing since the 13th century, renowned for its richly coloured, textured glass forms. The Calyra references this tradition through its ribbed aqua glass panels, tiered form, and the warm brass detailing that echoes the ornate metalwork common in Venetian lighting. It is a contemporary interpretation of that aesthetic.
A warm-white bulb at 2700–3000 K is strongly recommended. The warm amber light passing through the aqua glass creates a rich teal-gold quality that is particularly beautiful. Cool daylight bulbs (5000K+) tend to flatten the aqua tone and reduce the warmth of the brass accents. A clear filament Edison candle or globe in warm white is ideal.
