Inspiration

Carving a shell out of stone is a slightly absurd idea, and that is the appeal: alabaster already looks like something the sea made, banded and translucent, so the clamshell reads as found rather than designed. Set a second piece of alabaster in the hollow and the arrangement completes itself — shell and pearl, one of them lit from inside. The brass mount stays deliberately plain so nothing competes with the stone.

Key Features

Hand-Carved Alabaster Shell
A scalloped clamshell carved from real Spanish alabaster, with banding and tone unique to each piece of stone.
Alabaster Globe
A carved alabaster globe sits in the shell like a pearl, the translucent stone spreading the bulb into an even glow with no hotspot.
Compact Accent Sconce
At 9.8″ wide it works singly in a hallway or powder room, or as a pair flanking a bed or mirror.

FAQ

What do I need to know about replacing the G4 bulb?
A warm white G4 LED is included, and it's replaceable. The one thing to get right is voltage: G4 bulbs are sold in low-voltage and line-voltage versions that look identical but are not interchangeable, and fitting the wrong one either fails immediately or overheats. Note the marking on the original bulb before you remove it, or check the spec sheet. G4 LEDs are widely available online.
Can I use it in a bathroom?
A powder room with no shower is fine, as is a vanity mirror in a dry zone. A full bathroom with a shower or tub is not — alabaster is porous and isn't damp-rated, so repeated steam will dull the surface and can stain the stone permanently. The same reason is why the stone should only ever be dusted dry, never wiped with water or a cleaner.
Will my shell look like the photo?
Recognisably, but not identically. Both the shell and the globe are carved from natural alabaster, so banding, opacity, and warmth differ between pieces — and the difference is most visible lit, since the veining shows from inside. If you're buying a pair to flank a bed or mirror, email info@docos.us and we'll hand-match them before shipping.

Alabaster — Natural Stone Lighting

The light lives
in the stone.

Hand-cut alabaster lighting that glows from within — chandeliers, pendants, sconces, and lamps, each carved from a single block of natural stone.

The Craft

From a block of stone
to light in your room.

Alabaster can't be moulded or mass-pressed — it is cut. Every shade starts as solid stone and is worked by hand until it's thin enough to glow evenly. That's why no two are the same.

01

Quarried

Blocks of natural alabaster are extracted and graded for translucency and the quality of their veining before any cutting begins.

02

Cut & shaped

Each block is sliced and turned or carved to form, then hollowed so a bulb can sit behind the stone wall.

03

Hand-finished

The walls are sanded to an even thickness so light passes through without dark patches, then polished by hand.

04

Wired & assembled

Fitted with brass hardware and wired to a 120V, ETL-compliant build, then inspected before it ships.

Why Alabaster

What makes it read as something rarer.

Translucent, not opaque

Light passes through the stone itself — the lit-from-inside quality you can't get from glass or acrylic.

Veining unique to your piece

Cut from a solid block, so the cloud-like veining is its own. No two alabaster fixtures are identical.

Warm and glare-free

The stone scatters light rather than aiming it. Pair with a 2700K bulb; most fixtures dim on a compatible LED dimmer.

Made for layered rooms

A soft accent beside stronger overhead light — at home with wood, linen, and brass in modern interiors.

Lit From Within

It doesn't light the room.
It becomes the light.

Switched off, an alabaster fixture is a quiet stone object. Switched on, the whole piece glows — sculpture you happen to be able to turn on.

The Collection

A gallery of carved light.

Chandeliers, pendants, sconces, table and floor lamps — all cut from natural alabaster, most paired with brass. Dozens of pieces in all.

Find My Size

Which alabaster light
for which room.

Dining & Island

Hang a linear pendant or chandelier roughly 30–36″ above the surface. For a 6–8′ island, size the fixture or cluster to about two-thirds the counter length.

Foyer & Stairwell

Two-story spaces suit a tiered chandelier — Corbett or Miira. Keep the lowest point at least 7′ off the floor in a walkway.

Bedside & Hallway

A wall sconce — Ando, Marmo, Velora — frees the nightstand and adds the soft accent layer. Plug-in versions skip the hardwiring.

Living Room & Den

A table lamp — Marie, Pico — anchors a reading corner with warm light beside your overheads.

Questions

Alabaster lighting, answered.

Is alabaster lighting durable, or does the stone chip easily?

Alabaster is a solid, fine-grained stone with real weight — not fragile in normal use. It is softer than marble, so avoid knocks and harsh chemical cleaners. A soft, dry cloth keeps it looking right for years.

Will my alabaster fixture look exactly like the photo?

No — and that's by design. Each shade is cut from natural stone, so the veining and tone are unique to your piece. The product photo shows a representative example; yours will have its own distinct veining.

What bulb and colour temperature work best with alabaster?

Use a 2700K warm-white LED to bring out the honeyed, candle-like tone in the stone. Cooler bulbs make alabaster look gray. Most fixtures take an E26 or G9 base — check the product page — and dim with a compatible LED dimmer.

Which alabaster fixture should I choose for my room size?

Chandeliers (Corbett, Kurve, Miira) suit dining rooms and two-story foyers; pendants suit kitchen islands; sconces suit bedsides and hallways. Send us your dimensions for a free 3D preview to scale before you order.
