Inspiration

Nubei takes its cue from wabi-sabi — the Japanese habit of finding beauty in the weathered and imperfect rather than the polished. The surface is worked into a close, irregular grain, the kind you find on a plank left out in the weather or a wall rubbed smooth by hands over years. Nothing about it announces itself: a low disc, a quiet texture, three earth tones. It's a fixture designed to be noticed second, after the room.

Use Case

At 3.9″ deep the Nubei sits close to the ceiling, so it suits low ceilings, hallways, stairwells, and small bathrooms where a pendant would be in the way. Because it also mounts on a wall, a pair reads well flanking a mirror or running down a corridor at head height. The damp rating opens up the spots most flush mounts can't take — a bathroom ceiling, a covered porch, a sheltered entry. What bulb does it use — is it included?

It takes one E26 or E27 bulb (the standard medium screw base — E26 in the US, E27 in Europe and Asia, same physical socket here), up to 40W incandescent or the LED equivalent. A warm white 3000K bulb is included and fully replaceable.

Can it go in a bathroom or outdoors?

It's damp rated, so a bathroom ceiling and a covered outdoor area — a porch ceiling or sheltered entry — are both fine. It isn't wet rated, so keep it out of direct rain, a shower spray zone, and fully exposed positions.

Can I mount it on a wall instead of the ceiling?

Yes — the same fixture mounts on a ceiling or a wall, so it works as a flush mount or a sconce. Either way it's hardwired to a standard junction box; a licensed electrician is recommended.

Does it work with a dimmer?

Yes, with a compatible dimmer switch (not included) and a dimmable bulb. If you're using LED, pair it with an LED-rated dimmer — older incandescent dimmers can flicker or buzz on LED loads.
