The starting point was a Paris evening seen through glass — the amber of a lit window, the light already warm before it reaches you. Cognac-tinted glass gave that color, and crackle-finishing the surface gave it movement: the fractures run through the glass rather than across it, so a single bulb reads as many small points of light. Each shade was shaped as a bud caught just before opening, and set on brass arms with walnut, the two materials that age rather than date.
Both sizes spread wide on a shallow 13.7″ body, which suits a dining table or entry hall better than a narrow space — the fixture reads horizontal rather than dropping into the room. Hang the bottom of the shades 30–36″ above a table. In a hallway or over open floor, keep at least 7 ft of clearance and account for the chain when working out the total drop.
Cognac glass warms everything near it, so it sits naturally with walnut and oak furniture, cream or plaster walls, brass hardware, and darker paint colors that would flatten a clear-glass fixture. On a dimmer the crackle glass is at its best — low output turns each shade into a cluster of small amber points rather than one bright source.
