Inspiration

The Aviora Table Lamp is a striped beach-club umbrella shrunk to desk size. Thread is wound in tight vertical rows over a frame, alternating one color with cream, and the same stripes run down the drum shade and the short column beneath it so the lamp reads as a single object. The drum is open at the top and bottom, so the bulb glows up onto the wall as well as down onto the table, which is why this striped thread drum table lamp was designed for a bedside, console, or desk in mid-century and retro rooms.

Is it tall enough for a bedside table?
At 39cm/15.4″ it sits low, so the bulb stays hidden from the pillow and light lands on the nightstand. On a desk or console it works the same way as a small accent lamp.
How does light come through the stripes?
The cream thread is thin enough to glow; the colored thread is darker and mostly blocks light, so the shade shows bright and dark bands. Light also spills from the open top and bottom. It reads as ambient light, not a task lamp.
Do the shade and column match exactly?
Yes. Both are wrapped in the same two threads, and the stripes are set so a colored band on the shade sits above a colored band on the column.
Will the colors fade?
Dyed thread can lighten if it sits in direct sun every day, so place the lamp away from a bright window. Indoors under normal light the stripes hold their color.
