Calyra Ceiling Light

Calyra starts from the problem of a low ceiling, where a pendant is out and a plain dome is the usual answer. The alternative here is borrowed from basketry: a woven rattan collar scalloped like a calyx, sitting flat against the ceiling with a glass globe held at its center. Woven by hand, so the rim is never mechanically even — the shade reads as something made rather than pressed, which is the whole point of putting fibre where metal normally goes.

Calyra is for rooms where a pendant or chandelier won't fit cleanly — bedrooms, hallways, entryways, and living rooms with standard-height ceilings. The output is ambient rather than task, so treat it as the main overhead in lounging and circulation spaces and layer table lamps or sconces into larger rooms. The dark rattan and antique brass sit naturally with coastal, bohemian, organic-modern, and Japandi interiors, and against pale walls the dappled wash from the weave does as much work as the fixture itself.
