Inspiration

The Avyra Wall Sconce brings the parasol shade of the Avyra family down to wall size. A small empire-shaped fabric shade is bound top and bottom with a running whip stitch in natural cord, the way a hand-made parasol edge or a leather hat brim is finished, so the stitches stay visible against the light. The shade sits on a short cylinder of solid wood that stands out from a round brass backplate, like a peg set into a workshop wall. Lit from within, the fabric glows evenly and throws light both up and down the wall, which is why this fabric shade wall sconce with wood arm and brass backplate was designed for either side of a bed or a mirror in mid-century and Japandi rooms.

How high should I mount it beside a bed?
Set the backplate so the bottom of the shade sits at about shoulder height when seated — roughly 120–140cm/47–55″ from the floor — so the bulb stays hidden and the light lands on a book.
Where does the light go?
The shade is open at both ends, so the 3000K bulb washes the wall above and lights the nightstand or counter below, with a soft glow through the fabric itself.
Is it hardwired or plug-in?
Hardwired. The 10cm/3.9″ round brass backplate covers a standard wall box; there is no cord or switch on the fixture, so it's controlled from the wall switch.
