Sospeso orizzontalmente su due sottili cavi d'acciaio, la massa si legge come una linea unica che galleggia sopra il tavolo con la parte funzionante mantenuta inferiormente. Nulla si trova all'altezza degli occhi, quindi un tavolo lungo riceve un'illuminazione uniforme da un'estremità all'altra, quello che un lampadario lineare fa meglio di un singolo apparecchio rotondo sopra un rettangolo.
