De Valther Pendant Light vertrekt van de schietlood, het oudste gereedschap op een bouwplaats: een gewicht aan een koord, zuiver verticaal hangend, dat aangeeft waar de echte verticaal ligt. Drie gedraaide kralen schuiven op dat koord en een stenen cilinder hangt eronder als gewicht, zodat het licht slechts één smalle verticale lijn vormt in plaats van een kap die ruimte inneemt. Omdat het licht uit de open onderkant van de buis naar beneden gaat in plaats van zijwaarts uit te stralen, werkt het als een spot op wat eronder staat – daarom hoort het thuis boven een keukeneiland, een barcounter of een nachtkastje waar u het oppervlak wilt verlichten en de rest van de ruimte donker wilt houden. Hang er één alleen op, twee boven een nachtkastenpaar, of drie op een rij boven een werkblad, en het smalle profiel verdwijnt uit zicht in wabi-sabi-, Japandi- en organic modern-kamers.
