Good To Know
!
1 × G9 LED bulb · natural alabaster shade · brass J-arm · opal glass diffuser · hardwired · downward task light · powder room OK, no shower / outdoor Shade is real natural alabaster (gypsum stone) hand-cut into a saucer shape; veining, color tone, and translucency vary piece to piece. Arm and backplate are solid brass in a warm gold-tone finish. The opal glass half-globe diffuser sits at the underside of the shade and softens the light into a warm even glow — no hotspots or visible filament. Socket is G9 (small bi-pin base) — widely available in the US on Amazon, Home Depot, Lowes, Lumens, and Bulbrite; LED bulb included by default. Use LED only, max 7W. Alabaster is porous and not damp-rated — OK for powder rooms (no shower) and dry-zone vanity mirrors; not for full bathrooms with shower steam, kitchens directly over a range, or outdoor. Don’t use water for cleaning; alabaster absorbs moisture and stains. Hardwires to standard wall junction box; licensed electrician recommended. Indoor dry locations only.
Key Features
Saucer-Shape Alabaster Shade
Hand-cut from natural alabaster into a flat saucer profile — veining and color tone vary per piece; the stone diffuses light from above while reflecting warmth downward.
J-Arm Brass Mount
A solid brass J-shaped arm extends the shade forward from the round wall plate — clean mid-century geometry, hand-finished gold-tone.
Opal Glass Half-Globe Diffuser
A milky opal glass half-globe at the underside softens the G9 LED into a warm even glow — no hotspots, no visible filament, glare-free at eye level.
!
Bathroom use: dry zone only Powder rooms (no shower) and vanity mirrors outside the shower zone are OK. Full bathrooms with shower steam, kitchens directly over a range, or any outdoor location are not OK — alabaster is porous and absorbs moisture, which causes staining, discoloration, and surface damage over time.

Use Case

The Carolia reads as a warm pool of downward task light — the opal glass half-globe softens the G9 LED into an even glow with no glare at eye level, while the alabaster saucer above catches and warms the spillover light. The J-arm brass mount stays minimal, so the stone and glass lead visually.

At 9.8″ wide, the Carolia is sized for a bedside reading light (pair two flanking a queen or king bed), a powder-room vanity, or a narrow hallway accent. Mount the center of the fixture 60-66″ above the floor at a vanity, or at shoulder height seated next to a bed for reading. Pairs with marble, polished plaster, warm-wood headboards, and brass hardware — fits quiet-luxury bedrooms, Mediterranean hallways, and mid-century reading nooks. FAQ
How big is it and where should I mount it?
The Carolia is 9.8 inches wide and 7.9 inches tall with the J-arm extending the shade forward from the wall. It’s sized for a bedside, hallway, powder room, or vanity mirror — not for large rooms as primary lighting. Mount the center of the fixture 60-66 inches above the floor at a vanity, or at shoulder height seated next to a bed for a reading sconce (typically 30-36 inches above the mattress top). For pairs flanking a queen or king bed, space the centers 60-72 inches apart for symmetry.
What is G9 and where do I buy replacement bulbs?
G9 is a small bi-pin base with two tiny prongs at the bottom of the bulb — smaller than the standard US E26 medium base. G9 LED bulbs are widely available in the US on Amazon, Home Depot, Lowes, Lumens, and Bulbrite. Search “G9 LED bulb” or “G9 bi-pin LED.” LED bulb is included by default and it’s fully replaceable. Use LED only, max 7W, 2700-3000K warm white. Do not use halogen — halogen runs hot inside the enclosed alabaster + glass diffuser and can cause heat-stress cracking or discoloration over time.
Will my alabaster shade look exactly like the photo?
Variation is part of the material. Each saucer-shape shade is hand-cut from natural alabaster, so the veining pattern, color tone (some pieces read warmer honey, others cooler cream), and translucency vary piece to piece. The listing photo is representative, not a guaranteed match — this variation is the character of natural stone, not a defect. For pairs that need close visual matching (flanking a bed or mirror), email info@docos.us for hand-selection; we can pull shades cut from similar blocks when possible.
Can I use it in a bathroom? How do I clean it?
Powder room (no shower) — yes. Vanity mirror in the dry zone of a master bathroom — yes, as long as it’s well-separated from shower steam. Full bathroom with shower steam — not recommended; alabaster is porous and repeated humidity cycles cause staining, discoloration, and surface degradation. Outdoor — no. Cleaning: dust alabaster with a dry soft microfiber cloth only. Do not use water, vinegar, alcohol, or any household cleaner on alabaster — the stone absorbs moisture and stains. For the brass arm and backplate use a dry soft cloth, avoid abrasive polish (which strips the gold-tone finish). The opal glass half-globe can be cleaned with a damp microfiber and standard glass cleaner.
How is it installed?
It’s a hardwired wall sconce — mounts to a standard wall junction box. The round brass backplate attaches to the box; the J-arm and shade are pre-assembled. Licensed electrician recommended: alabaster is moderately fragile and the saucer shade must be handled carefully during install — it can chip if dropped or hit against the wall. Confirm your junction box is positioned where you want the center of the backplate before drilling new mounting holes. Indoor, dry locations only.

The Craft

From a block of stone
to light in your room.

Alabaster can't be moulded or mass-pressed — it is cut. Every shade starts as solid stone and is worked by hand until it's thin enough to glow evenly. That's why no two are the same.

01

Quarried

Blocks of natural alabaster are extracted and graded for translucency and the quality of their veining before any cutting begins.

02

Cut & shaped

Each block is sliced and turned or carved to form, then hollowed so a bulb can sit behind the stone wall.

03

Hand-finished

The walls are sanded to an even thickness so light passes through without dark patches, then polished by hand.

04

Wired & assembled

Fitted with brass hardware and wired to a 120V, ETL-compliant build, then inspected before it ships.

Why Alabaster

What makes it read as something rarer.

Translucent, not opaque

Light passes through the stone itself — the lit-from-inside quality you can't get from glass or acrylic.

Veining unique to your piece

Cut from a solid block, so the cloud-like veining is its own. No two alabaster fixtures are identical.

Warm and glare-free

The stone scatters light rather than aiming it. Pair with a 2700K bulb; most fixtures dim on a compatible LED dimmer.

Made for layered rooms

A soft accent beside stronger overhead light — at home with wood, linen, and brass in modern interiors.

Lit From Within

It doesn't light the room.
It becomes the light.

Switched off, an alabaster fixture is a quiet stone object. Switched on, the whole piece glows — sculpture you happen to be able to turn on.

The Collection

A gallery of carved light.

Chandeliers, pendants, sconces, table and floor lamps — all cut from natural alabaster, most paired with brass. Dozens of pieces in all.

Find My Size

Which alabaster light
for which room.

Dining & Island

Hang a linear pendant or chandelier roughly 30–36″ above the surface. For a 6–8′ island, size the fixture or cluster to about two-thirds the counter length.

Foyer & Stairwell

Two-story spaces suit a tiered chandelier — Corbett or Miira. Keep the lowest point at least 7′ off the floor in a walkway.

Bedside & Hallway

A wall sconce — Ando, Marmo, Velora — frees the nightstand and adds the soft accent layer. Plug-in versions skip the hardwiring.

Living Room & Den

A table lamp — Marie, Pico — anchors a reading corner with warm light beside your overheads.

Questions

Alabaster lighting, answered.

Is alabaster lighting durable, or does the stone chip easily?

Alabaster is a solid, fine-grained stone with real weight — not fragile in normal use. It is softer than marble, so avoid knocks and harsh chemical cleaners. A soft, dry cloth keeps it looking right for years.

Will my alabaster fixture look exactly like the photo?

No — and that's by design. Each shade is cut from natural stone, so the veining and tone are unique to your piece. The product photo shows a representative example; yours will have its own distinct veining.

What bulb and colour temperature work best with alabaster?

Use a 2700K warm-white LED to bring out the honeyed, candle-like tone in the stone. Cooler bulbs make alabaster look gray. Most fixtures take an E26 or G9 base — check the product page — and dim with a compatible LED dimmer.

Which alabaster fixture should I choose for my room size?

Chandeliers (Corbett, Kurve, Miira) suit dining rooms and two-story foyers; pendants suit kitchen islands; sconces suit bedsides and hallways. Send us your dimensions for a free 3D preview to scale before you order.
