Inspiration

The Orb Alabaster Wall Sconce is a small sculptural sconce — two stacked natural alabaster orbs on a low-profile mount, the upper sphere lit from within so warm light glows through the stone’s natural veining and casts soft shadows on the wall. 4.9″ wide × 7.9″ tall. One E26 socket. For a powder room, bedside, hallway, foyer, vanity, or reading nook. Modern minimalist, organic modern, transitional, Hollywood Regency, and quiet luxury style.

Good To Know

!
1 × E26 bulb included · natural stone (each piece unique) · hardwired · indoor dry only Each piece is carved from natural alabaster — a translucent gypsum-based stone with crystalline veining inside. Color tone, vein pattern, and exact translucence vary piece to piece, sometimes noticeably; this is the defining characteristic of natural alabaster, not a defect. The upper orb contains the bulb; the lower orb is the structural mounting element. Stone is heavier than glass and somewhat fragile to impact — mount to a stud or solid wall anchor, not to drywall alone. Use the included low-heat LED bulb only — alabaster sits close to the socket and dislikes hot bulbs (no incandescent or halogen). Hardwires to a standard junction box; have a licensed electrician install. Indoor, dry locations only.
Key Features

Stacked Two-Orb Silhouette
Two alabaster spheres meet at an offset where the upper orb sits forward of the lower — sculptural from any angle, reads as one continuous form when lit.
Natural Alabaster Translucence
Light passes through the stone instead of around it — crystalline veining inside the alabaster shows up only when the bulb is on, giving each piece a unique lit pattern.
Compact Low-Profile Mount
Only 4.9″ wide and projects modestly from the wall — fits where larger sconces don’t (narrow hallways, between mirrors and cabinets, beside narrow doorways).

Use Case

The Orb Alabaster reads as a small piece of stone sculpture first and a light source second. When the bulb is off it’s a quiet, cream-colored stacked silhouette; when on, the upper orb glows from inside and the natural veining reveals itself like a faint marble map. Best as accent or mood lighting — the warm soft glow won’t replace a bright overhead fixture, but it brings noticeable warmth to a corner that overhead light can’t reach.

Use as a powder room accent, a bedside sconce pair flanking a bed (popular in master bedrooms to free up nightstand space), a vanity flank beside a bathroom mirror in dry-zone installs, a foyer focal point, or a reading-nook night light. The cream alabaster + warm-light palette pairs with plaster walls, oak millwork, linen drapery, warm-neutral paint, marble or travertine surfaces, and brushed brass hardware — fitting modern minimalist bedrooms, transitional powder rooms, organic modern hallways, and Hollywood Regency dining walls. FAQ

Is this real natural alabaster, or a composite?
It’s natural alabaster — a translucent gypsum-based stone carved into the sphere shape. You can tell from the internal crystalline veining visible when the bulb is on (resin or composite doesn’t have those natural patterns). Because it’s natural stone, each piece is unique — the exact veining, density of opaque areas, and warmth of tone all vary. Customers who want a guaranteed match to the listing photo should email us at info@docos.us first.
Will the veining match the photo exactly?
No two pieces are identical. Natural alabaster forms over millions of years; veining and translucence vary based on the section of stone each orb is carved from. Some pieces have dramatic visible patterns, others read more uniformly cream. The listing photo is representative, not a guaranteed match. If you need pieces that match closely (e.g., for a sconce pair), email us before ordering and we’ll hand-select.
What bulb does it take, is it included, and is E27 available?
The default version uses 1 × E26 (US medium screw base) and ships with a bulb included. We can ship an E27 EU version on request — email info@docos.us before ordering. Use LED only, 2700–3000K warm white, max 5–7W. No incandescent or halogen — alabaster sits very close to the socket and prolonged heat from a hot bulb can stress the stone.
How do I install it — what about the weight?
It’s a hardwired wall sconce that mounts to a standard ceiling-rated junction box. Alabaster weighs more than glass at the same size — mount to a wall stud, blocked location, or use a solid wall anchor rated for the fixture weight. Don’t mount to drywall alone. Have a licensed electrician handle the wiring and confirm the mounting structure before install. Don’t hang anything additional from the orbs.
Can I use it in a bathroom?
Powder room (no shower) — yes. A vanity flank in a bathroom with good ventilation may also work for many installs, but the fixture is not damp-rated by default. Avoid bathrooms with steady shower steam, damp basements, kitchens directly over a sink with heavy steam, and covered outdoor patios. Persistent moisture can stain alabaster surfaces and affect the socket and wiring over time.

The Craft

From a block of stone
to light in your room.

Alabaster can't be moulded or mass-pressed — it is cut. Every shade starts as solid stone and is worked by hand until it's thin enough to glow evenly. That's why no two are the same.

01

Quarried

Blocks of natural alabaster are extracted and graded for translucency and the quality of their veining before any cutting begins.

02

Cut & shaped

Each block is sliced and turned or carved to form, then hollowed so a bulb can sit behind the stone wall.

03

Hand-finished

The walls are sanded to an even thickness so light passes through without dark patches, then polished by hand.

04

Wired & assembled

Fitted with brass hardware and wired to a 120V, ETL-compliant build, then inspected before it ships.

Why Alabaster

What makes it read as something rarer.

Translucent, not opaque

Light passes through the stone itself — the lit-from-inside quality you can't get from glass or acrylic.

Veining unique to your piece

Cut from a solid block, so the cloud-like veining is its own. No two alabaster fixtures are identical.

Warm and glare-free

The stone scatters light rather than aiming it. Pair with a 2700K bulb; most fixtures dim on a compatible LED dimmer.

Made for layered rooms

A soft accent beside stronger overhead light — at home with wood, linen, and brass in modern interiors.

Lit From Within

It doesn't light the room.
It becomes the light.

Switched off, an alabaster fixture is a quiet stone object. Switched on, the whole piece glows — sculpture you happen to be able to turn on.

The Collection

Chandeliers, pendants, sconces, table and floor lamps — all cut from natural alabaster, most paired with brass. Dozens of pieces in all.

Find My Size

Which alabaster light
for which room.

Dining & Island

Hang a linear pendant or chandelier roughly 30–36″ above the surface. For a 6–8′ island, size the fixture or cluster to about two-thirds the counter length.

Foyer & Stairwell

Two-story spaces suit a tiered chandelier — Corbett or Miira. Keep the lowest point at least 7′ off the floor in a walkway.

Bedside & Hallway

A wall sconce — Ando, Marmo, Velora — frees the nightstand and adds the soft accent layer. Plug-in versions skip the hardwiring.

Living Room & Den

A table lamp — Marie, Pico — anchors a reading corner with warm light beside your overheads.

Questions

Alabaster lighting, answered.

Is alabaster lighting durable, or does the stone chip easily?

Alabaster is a solid, fine-grained stone with real weight — not fragile in normal use. It is softer than marble, so avoid knocks and harsh chemical cleaners. A soft, dry cloth keeps it looking right for years.

Will my alabaster fixture look exactly like the photo?

No — and that's by design. Each shade is cut from natural stone, so the veining and tone are unique to your piece. The product photo shows a representative example; yours will have its own distinct veining.

What bulb and colour temperature work best with alabaster?

Use a 2700K warm-white LED to bring out the honeyed, candle-like tone in the stone. Cooler bulbs make alabaster look gray. Most fixtures take an E26 or G9 base — check the product page — and dim with a compatible LED dimmer.

Which alabaster fixture should I choose for my room size?

Chandeliers (Corbett, Kurve, Miira) suit dining rooms and two-story foyers; pendants suit kitchen islands; sconces suit bedsides and hallways. Send us your dimensions for a free 3D preview to scale before you order.
