Inspiration

The Mia Ball Alabaster Wall Sconce is a small sculptural sconce — a flat natural alabaster disc backplate paired with a glowing alabaster ball that sits forward of the disc. Light passes through the stone, revealing crystalline veining when on. 7.9″ diameter. G9 LED socket. For a powder room, bedside, hallway, foyer, vanity, or reading nook. Modern minimalist, organic modern, transitional, Hollywood Regency, and quiet luxury style.

Good To Know
!
G9 LED bulb included · natural stone (each piece unique) · hardwired · indoor dry only Both the disc backplate and the ball are carved from natural alabaster (gypsum stone). Color tone, vein pattern, and translucence vary piece to piece, sometimes noticeably; this is the defining characteristic of natural alabaster, not a defect. The ball houses the bulb; the disc is the structural backplate. Uses a G9 LED bulb (not E26) — smaller bi-pin base typical of European-style decorative fixtures; replacement G9 LED bulbs are widely available on Amazon and at lighting retailers. LED only — no G9 halogen replacements, as halogen runs too hot for alabaster close to the socket. Stone is heavier than glass; mount to a stud or solid anchor, not drywall alone. Have a licensed electrician hardwire. Indoor, dry locations only.
Key Features
Disc Backplate + Forward Ball
A flat alabaster disc sits against the wall; the alabaster ball sits forward of the disc so light spills onto both stone surfaces and casts a soft halo on the wall behind.
Natural Alabaster Translucence
The disc has visible cream-and-warm-grey veining even when unlit; the ball is more uniformly cream until the bulb is on, then crystalline veining shows up inside. Each piece is naturally unique.
Compact G9 LED Bulb
Uses a small G9 bi-pin LED bulb (not E26) — the compact bulb fits inside the alabaster ball without bulking it out. Replacement G9 LEDs are easy to find online.

Use Case

The Mia Ball reads as a small piece of stone sculpture against the wall. The disc backplate is the visual anchor — its alabaster veining is visible even with the bulb off; the ball sits forward of the disc and glows softly when lit, with light spilling onto the disc behind it to create a layered, halo-like effect. Best as accent or mood lighting — the G9 LED gives a small, intimate light spread, not enough to replace a bright overhead fixture but enough to bring noticeable warmth to a corner.

Use as a powder room accent, a bedside sconce pair flanking a bed (popular in master bedrooms to free up nightstand space), a vanity flank beside a bathroom mirror in dry-zone installs, a foyer focal point, or a reading-nook night light. The cream alabaster + warm-light palette pairs with plaster walls, oak millwork, linen drapery, warm-neutral paint, marble or travertine surfaces, and brushed brass hardware — fitting modern minimalist bedrooms, transitional powder rooms, organic modern hallways, and Hollywood Regency dining walls. FAQ
Is this real natural alabaster, or a composite?
It’s natural alabaster — a translucent gypsum-based stone carved into both the disc and the ball. You can tell from the visible cream-and-warm-grey veining on the disc even when unlit, and the internal crystalline patterns that appear in the ball when the bulb is on. Resin or composite alabaster lookalikes don’t have these naturally varied patterns. Each piece is unique — veining, density, and exact tone vary.
What is a G9 bulb, and where do I buy replacements?
G9 is a small bi-pin bulb base (two pins 9mm apart) common in European-style decorative fixtures — smaller than E26 (the US standard medium screw base). The ball that the bulb sits inside is too small for an E26 bulb, which is why G9 is used. G9 LED replacements are easy to find on Amazon, Home Depot online, Lowes, and lighting specialty stores; search "G9 LED warm white 2700K." Use LED only — no G9 halogen, which runs too hot for alabaster close to the socket.
Will the veining match the photo exactly?
No two pieces are identical. Natural alabaster forms over millions of years; the veining and translucence of the disc and ball both vary based on the section of stone each piece is carved from. Some pieces have dramatic visible patterns, others read more uniformly cream. The listing photo is representative, not a guaranteed match. If you need pieces that match closely (e.g., for a sconce pair beside a vanity or bed), email us before ordering and we’ll hand-select.
How do I install it — what about the weight?
It’s a hardwired wall sconce that mounts to a standard junction box. Alabaster weighs more than glass at the same size — mount to a wall stud, blocked location, or use a solid wall anchor rated for the fixture weight. Don’t mount to drywall alone. Have a licensed electrician handle the wiring and confirm the mounting structure before install. Don’t hang anything additional from the disc or ball.
Can I use it in a bathroom?
Powder room (no shower) — yes. A vanity flank in a bathroom with good ventilation may also work for many installs, but the fixture is not damp-rated by default. Avoid bathrooms with steady shower steam, damp basements, kitchens directly over a sink with heavy steam, and covered outdoor patios. Persistent moisture can stain alabaster and affect the G9 socket and wiring over time.

The Craft

From a block of stone
to light in your room.

Alabaster can't be moulded or mass-pressed — it is cut. Every shade starts as solid stone and is worked by hand until it's thin enough to glow evenly. That's why no two are the same.

01

Quarried

Blocks of natural alabaster are extracted and graded for translucency and the quality of their veining before any cutting begins.

02

Cut & shaped

Each block is sliced and turned or carved to form, then hollowed so a bulb can sit behind the stone wall.

03

Hand-finished

The walls are sanded to an even thickness so light passes through without dark patches, then polished by hand.

04

Wired & assembled

Fitted with brass hardware and wired to a 120V, ETL-compliant build, then inspected before it ships.

Why Alabaster

What makes it read as something rarer.

Translucent, not opaque

Light passes through the stone itself — the lit-from-inside quality you can't get from glass or acrylic.

Veining unique to your piece

Cut from a solid block, so the cloud-like veining is its own. No two alabaster fixtures are identical.

Warm and glare-free

The stone scatters light rather than aiming it. Pair with a 2700K bulb; most fixtures dim on a compatible LED dimmer.

Made for layered rooms

A soft accent beside stronger overhead light — at home with wood, linen, and brass in modern interiors.

Lit From Within

It doesn't light the room.
It becomes the light.

Switched off, an alabaster fixture is a quiet stone object. Switched on, the whole piece glows — sculpture you happen to be able to turn on.

The Collection

Chandeliers, pendants, sconces, table and floor lamps — all cut from natural alabaster, most paired with brass. Dozens of pieces in all.

Find My Size

Which alabaster light
for which room.

Dining & Island

Hang a linear pendant or chandelier roughly 30–36″ above the surface. For a 6–8′ island, size the fixture or cluster to about two-thirds the counter length.

Foyer & Stairwell

Two-story spaces suit a tiered chandelier — Corbett or Miira. Keep the lowest point at least 7′ off the floor in a walkway.

Bedside & Hallway

A wall sconce — Ando, Marmo, Velora — frees the nightstand and adds the soft accent layer. Plug-in versions skip the hardwiring.

Living Room & Den

A table lamp — Marie, Pico — anchors a reading corner with warm light beside your overheads.

Questions

Alabaster lighting, answered.

Is alabaster lighting durable, or does the stone chip easily?

Alabaster is a solid, fine-grained stone with real weight — not fragile in normal use. It is softer than marble, so avoid knocks and harsh chemical cleaners. A soft, dry cloth keeps it looking right for years.

Will my alabaster fixture look exactly like the photo?

No — and that's by design. Each shade is cut from natural stone, so the veining and tone are unique to your piece. The product photo shows a representative example; yours will have its own distinct veining.

What bulb and colour temperature work best with alabaster?

Use a 2700K warm-white LED to bring out the honeyed, candle-like tone in the stone. Cooler bulbs make alabaster look gray. Most fixtures take an E26 or G9 base — check the product page — and dim with a compatible LED dimmer.

Which alabaster fixture should I choose for my room size?

Chandeliers (Corbett, Kurve, Miira) suit dining rooms and two-story foyers; pendants suit kitchen islands; sconces suit bedsides and hallways. Send us your dimensions for a free 3D preview to scale before you order.
